‘This Kid Has Been Through a Tunnel’ – Colin Cowherd Highlights Reasons Why Shedeur Sanders Is NFL-Ready

Many teams are sure to pin their hopes on the 2025 NFL Draft. Some of those teams are debating whether Shedeur Sanders is the best quarterback in this year’s draft class.

Sanders, who many projected to be the No. 1 overall pick during the 2024 college football season, slid to the No. 7 spot in Mel Kiper Jr.’s latest mock draft. NFL analyst Colin Cowherd shares why he thinks falling to the New York Jets is the best spot for the Colorado star.

Colin Cowherd Reacts as Mel Kiper Jr. Projects Shedeur Sanders to the Jets

Kiper Jr. released the latest version of his mock draft, and one of the changes that surprised fans the most was that Sanders slid to the No. 7 spot to the New York Jets.

Kiper explained that because the Jets are behind the Las Vegas Raiders, and the Raiders are looking at Sam Darnold, it’s possible the Colorado quarterback could fall to No. 7.

Reacting to this analysis, Cowherd shared that he thinks the No. 7 spot is perfect for Sanders because he’s accurate on the field, and the Jets can surround him with great talent.

Cowherd explained that Sanders had been the most sacked player in college football and had the worst running game of any quarterback in the Power Five conferences within the last two years.

“This kid has been through a tunnel, okay? This kid has swam to a tunnel, you know what? And there’s a reason that there aren’t a lot of great Ohio State quarterbacks in the NFL, and not a lot of great Notre Dame quarterbacks, USC quarterbacks, Texas quarterbacks, Georgia quarterbacks. Why is that? Cal, the Golden Bears have given us golf and Aaron Rogers. Josh Allen is from Wyoming, and Patrick Mahomes is from Texas Tech, Lamar Jackson is from a basketball school. Why is that?”

“If you look at the top seven teams in the NFL Draft, I could argue the Jets have the best roster. So, I looked up the composite rankings of Colorado that Shedeur Sanders played with. It was even with BYU, SMU, and Arizona State. And there are two quarterbacks in this draft that are ready to play day one, Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders, and the biggest reason is that he’s lived a real NFL life, running for his life with no running game for two years and having to manufacture offense.”

Round 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft is set to take place April 24 in Green Bay, Wis.
