As members of the Democratic Party push back against President Donald Trump’s lofty claims about the state of the country, one congressman in particular is giving the president no quarter.
In taking aim at President Trump’s latest remark, Congressman Ted Lieu has now dragged the Cleveland Browns into the mix.
Why Congressman Lieu’s Bringing Up the Browns To Respond to Trump
Earlier this week, Trump claimed that the Republicans were doing extremely well in the polls. With the midterms right around the corner, he believed the numbers showcased them as ahead by 25 points.
However, according to most online sources, the tide is in the Democrats’ favor, with average estimates hovering around 5-8 points. As a result, Ted Lieu, who represents the 36th congressional district from California in the House of Representatives, compared Trump to a Browns fan holding on to delusion.
Using Trump’s words but in a different context, he joked that the Browns, who had no quarterback and traded their best player, Myles Garrett, would have a blowout win in the Super Bowl.
And it looks like he’s embracing that analogy once again.
At a campaign event, the president promised, “Together, we will pass the ‘Great Healthcare Plan’ to stop all payments to big insurance companies and give the money directly to the people so that they can buy their own healthcare, which will be much better care at a much lower price.”

Congressman Lieu, continuing with the sarcasm, wasn’t willing to buy what Trump was selling. Instead, he mockingly remarked, “Cleveland Browns will win the Super Bowl.”

For any realistic NFL fan, that statement reads as a joke heading into the 2026 NFL season. Even though they have a strong foundation, the Browns don’t seem anywhere near a playoff berth, let alone Super Bowl contention this season.

Aside from trading away Garrett, they are yet to make a decision on their starting quarterback between Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson. Neither figures as a great choice under center, with most people expecting Cleveland to wait a season and find a potential franchise quarterback in next year’s draft instead.
Lieu believes the promise from Trump is just as unlikely to happen as a Browns Super Bowl victory. But given the recent polling numbers, it looks like the president and the rest of the Republican Party have a bigger problem on their hands when the midterm elections arrive.
