Browns Insider Announces Major QB Shakeup Is Likely Coming Soon

One Browns insider updated fans on a long-awaited decision that may see veteran QB Joe Flacco pulled from QB1 sooner rather than later.

After an offseason full of drama, the Cleveland Browns may finally be making a change at quarterback.

Veteran Joe Flacco has played to the best of his abilities in the first two weeks despite the team getting off to a 0-2 start. With the 2-0 Green Bay Packers awaiting them in Cleveland, one can only imagine what EDGE Micah Parsons is going to do if he can get his hands on the 40-year-old journeyman.

No Matter the Week 3 Outcome, Cleveland May Choose to Start Dillon Gabriel Moving Forward

Changes seem to be coming in Cleveland, according to Browns reporter, Brad Stainbrook, who took to social media just a few hours prior to Cleveland’s Week 3 marquee showdown against the Packers to discuss the state of the Browns quarterback room.

“Earlier this week, Kevin Stefanski and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees spent much of Monday in meetings weighing whether to hand the job to Browns rookie Dillon Gabriel, per league sources,” Stainbrook said.

Gabriel had his first taste of NFL action in Week 2 when he threw the team’s lone passing touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens. He looked good, despite being inserted in garbage time. Many believed that those reps didn’t matter, but they could have been the turning point for the team’s No. 94 overall pick.

The Oregon graduate went 3-of-3 for 19 yards with a touchdown. His longest pass was only eight yards, but the small sample size leaves plenty of room for improvement. He averaged 6.7 yards per completion, which is a vast improvement from Flacco’s 5.4. As it stands, Flacco is 56-of-90 for 489 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions.

All of the Browns’ offseason discussions were directed at the quarterback position. With Deshaun Watson out, the team looked to both Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders in the draft. Somehow, Sanders fell to the fifth round despite being projected as a first-round talent. Recently, he commented on the rumors of his declining to be drafted by the Ravens.

With Sanders now sitting at the bottom of the depth chart in Cleveland, he may finally be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Depending on Gabriel’s performance, the team could look to start him later on in the season.

At the end of the day, 2025 seems to be the ultimate trial period as the Browns look to move forward with their QB of the future. If one thing is for certain, it won’t be Flacco, who entered the league back in 2008.
