Chris Godwin is set to continue his impressive tenure with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a few more years after he signed a three-year contract this offseason.
Godwin was drafted in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Buccaneers and is entering his ninth year in the NFL.
Chris Godwin’s Contract and Salary
Godwin signed a three-year, $66 million extension with the Buccaneers in March 2025. The deal includes a fully guaranteed two-year period ($44 million) and a maximum value of $72 million with incentives. Here’s a breakdown of Godwin’s incentives, per Spotrac:
Receptions
- 55: $66,667
- 65: $133,333
- 75: $216,666
Receiving Yards
- 650: $66,667
- 750: $133,333
- 850: $216,666
Receiving Touchdowns
- 6: $66,667
- 7: $133,333
- 8: $216,666
Godwin would have likely earned more had he not suffered a dislocated left ankle in the Bucs’ Week 7 game that ended his season. He had tallied 576 yards and five touchdowns on 50 receptions before the injury.
However, this was not the first time Godwin suffered a season-ending injury before becoming an unrestricted free agent. He suffered a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee in the 2021 season, and Tampa Bay later gave him a three-year, $60 million deal with $40 million in guaranteed money.
Godwin’s annual salary has jumped by $2 million compared to his previous salary, but he’s still getting nearly half of the NFL’s highest-paying receiver (Ja’Marr Chase, $40.5 million).
Godwin’s Net Worth and Career Earnings
Godwin’s net worth is not known in the public domain, but it should be a pretty good number. He’s amassed $80,631,664 in career earnings alone so far, and has partnered with brands like Daily Harvest, Juiced Electric Bikes, Nationwide, Verizon, Tide, NFL Fantasy, and Lids.
Godwin was picked 84th overall by the Buccaneers in the 2017 NFL Draft and earned a four-year, $3.2 million contract. The Buccaneers placed a franchise tag worth $15.9 million on him when he became a free agent in 2021, and they used the franchise tag again in 2022 before extending him.
Godwin is an extremely reliable receiver who can operate out of the slot. While he does not have the gaudy single-year numbers of Ja’Mar Chase or Justin Jefferson, Godwin has posted 1,000+ yards in four of his eight seasons. Entering 2024, he had only missed five games in the previous three seasons, all of which were 1,000+ seasons.
Over his eight seasons in Tampa Bay, Godwin has tallied 579 receptions for 7,266 yards and 39 touchdowns.
He was on pace for career-high numbers in 2024 before the injury ended his season early. The 29-year-old has since recovered and is expected to return to the lineup from Week 1 of the 2025 season.
