Before Chloe Kim met Myles Garrett, she had already drafted the ending to her love story, or rather, the absence of one. The Olympic snowboard champion had reached the point where dating felt less like a possibility and more like emotional admin she didn’t want to deal with anymore.
So she did what many people do when they’re exhausted with romance: she dramatically declared herself done. Permanently. Forever.
Why Chloe Kim Says Myles Garrett Was Different From Past Relationships
The twist in her story came when the universe, or in this case, her physical therapist, had other plans. Kim recently discussed the story on the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast with host Amanda Hirsch, recounting the exact moment she realized she had officially reached her breaking point with dating.
At the time, she was in Aspen for the 2025 X Games and chatting with her physical therapist, Vinh, a trusted member of her team who also worked with Garrett. What started as a casual conversation turned into a full-on emotional spiral, the kind that arrives when you’ve tried something too many times without the right result.
“I was like, ‘I can’t date anymore, like, I’m done, I’m just gonna be single forever.’ I was being so dramatic,” she said. “I was like, ‘I’m gonna get a sperm donor. I don’t need a man.'”
Her frustration had a specific source. Life at Kim’s level of success doesn’t exactly resemble normal life. She had been training since childhood, won her first Olympic gold medal as a teenager, and built a career that made her a recognizable athlete in winter sports.
With that kind of success comes a tricky reality: dating someone who isn’t intimidated by it all. Vinh then asked the question that quietly redirected the entire conversation: What exactly was she looking for?
Kim then replied that she wanted someone tall, kind, close to their family, and someone whose own success wouldn’t make them feel overshadowed by hers. Vinh paused for a moment. “What about Myles?” she was asked. Kim admitted she had no idea who Garrett was at the time. But boredom, as it turns out, can be surprisingly romantic.

She agreed to a quick FaceTime introduction. They had a small talk. There were no fireworks, no sweeping cinematic moments. Kim walked away, assuming that was the beginning and end of the interaction.
Except it wasn’t. Shortly after the call, Garrett texted her to ask how her X Games practice had gone that day. It was a small gesture, but Kim remembered thinking it felt unusually thoughtful.
“Do I just have really low standards,” she joked, “or is that really sweet?”
Sweet enough, apparently, to start a routine. According to her, Garrett has texted her every day since that first message. Which, if you squint at it just right, feels a little like the opening chapter of a rom-com, except this one happened to be real.
