The Kansas City Chiefs are entering the 2025 season with a disappointing loss in their minds, as they were blown out by the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl.
One of the most apparent issues in the defeat was the lack of strong targets for superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes to throw to. Speedy wide receiver Xavier Worthy finished the night on a high note but, like the rest of the Chiefs’ weapons, came up short until garbage time.
Kansas City’s front office has made countless attempts in recent years to add a true top target for Mahomes in the NFL Draft but continues to miss, with the exception of Rashee Rice. If the right player is available at No. 31 in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Chiefs could consider another attempt at bolstering Mahomes’ receiving room.

Chiefs Shockingly Predicted To Land Tetairoa McMillan
Yes, that statement is as crazy as it seems. Most anticipate Arizona Wildcats star WR Tetairoa McMillan to go off the board somewhere in the top 10, but NFL.com’s latest mock draft believes differently.
NFL.com’s Rhett Lewis shockingly predicts McMillan to fall all the way to Kansas City’s selection, allowing them to land the 6’5″ red-zone machine.
“Would the Chiefs consider spending their first-round pick on a receiver for a second consecutive draft? Maybe not, but McMillan offers a body type and skill set Patrick Mahomes has never really had at his disposal. And upgrading the playmakers around No. 15 is never a bad idea,” Lewis wrote.
Mahomes’ long-time favorite target, tight end Travis Kelce, will not be in the NFL much longer, as he was already contemplating retirement following the Chiefs’ loss to the Eagles. Ever since trading away superstar WR Tyreek Hill, it’s been obvious there is an element missing from their offense, which McMillan could provide.
2024 was far from a failure for the Chiefs’ offense but simply a step down, as their unit still slotted at No. 12 in PFSN’s Offense+ metric, and Mahomes was placed at No. 10 in their QB+ data.
McMillan really burst onto the scene as a sophomore with the Wildcats when he earned All-American honors and finished with a remarkable 1,402 receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns. He continued his dominance as a junior, finishing as a Biletnikoff Award finalist, and was an All-American.
In PFSN’s latest mock draft, McMillan goes off the board at a much more reasonable spot of No. 12 to the Dallas Cowboys. It’s incredibly hard to imagine this many organizations passing on McMillan, but if they do, seeing Mahomes throwing to him will be a scary sight for opponents in 2025.
“While almost every move by the Cowboys this offseason has been perplexing, they have the chance to reconcile all of those mistakes by adding McMillan. His skill set pairs perfectly with CeeDee Lamb, and he would face many one-on-one matchups that he can easily win” said PFSN.
