Patrick Mahomes has been one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL since he was named the starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2018. He has twice been named the number one player in the NFL Top 100 rankings, which the players vote on. However, on a recent episode of “Up and Adams,” Mahomes clarified his priorities when he shared his thoughts on the Top 100 list.
Patrick Mahomes Doesn’t Care Where He is Ranked in the NFL Top 100 Rankings
Even though Mahomes has twice topped the NFL Top 100 list, he recently told host Kay Adams what matters to him. In an honest conversation, Mahomes explained his mindset about rankings and why Super Bowl wins are his only priority.
“There’s a lot of great quarterbacks, a lot of great players in this league,” Mahomes told Adams. “They can rank me wherever they rank me. At the end of the day, all I’m trying to do is win Super Bowls, and I don’t care where I am on that list. No offense.”

The comments make it clear that winning is Mahomes’ top priority. This should be no surprise, as the Chiefs were not concerned with winning games ugly in 2024.
Mahomes is coming off the two worst statistical years of his career, but that didn’t stop the team from making the Super Bowl in both seasons. He ranked as the No. 10 quarterback in the NFL in 2024 in PFSN’s QB+ rankings with an 84.4 (B) score. The Chiefs’ offense was also down, ranking No. 12 in PFSN’s Offense+ rankings.
Kansas City’s offense has been less explosive than in the past, but they have also had a more dominant defense than they did earlier in Mahomes’s career. As a result, the team has not had to score as much to win games, and the team has resorted to running the ball more often to kill the clock.
This has resulted in many believing that Mahomes has begun to decline and could result in his placement dropping drastically on the NFL Top 100 list ahead of the 2025 NFL season.
However, Mahomes’ comments clarify that he and the Chiefs prioritize winning Super Bowls over individual success. It’s hard to argue with his statement when the Chiefs have made the Super Bowl in three consecutive seasons and hoisted the Lombardi Trophy in two of those seasons.
Where Mahomes ranks in the NFL Top 100 remains to be seen, and while winning Super Bowls is where his priorities lie, a low ranking for the two-time NFL MVP, would just give Mahomes and the Chiefs another form of motivation ahead of the 2025 season, as they look to return to the Super Bowl for a fourth straight season.
The Chiefs have won 14 games in the past two regular seasons. Mahomes threw for 3,928 yards and 26 touchdowns in the 2024-25 regular season, his lowest touchdown total since becoming a starter.
Even with numbers that look modest by his high standards, Mahomes and the Chiefs keep finding ways to win when it matters most. Their focus on results over stats is why Kansas City remains a Super Bowl contender yearly.
