Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown has revealed how his faith helped him through what was a difficult 2024 season. Brown missed the first 14 games of his first campaign with the Chiefs, finally appearing in time for the team’s playoff run.
Hoping for a better time in 2025, the receiver revealed that he’d enjoyed putting in work during the offseason and is grateful to be back in Kansas City.
Hollywood Brown Leant On His Faith During Difficult First Season With the Kansas City Chiefs
With teams across the NFL getting back into the swing of things at OTAs and mandatory minicamps, hopes and expectations are high. The Chiefs are no different, as the team plots a return to the top after falling one win short of a historic “three-peat” in February.
Brown caught two passes that day, but he had far higher hopes for 2024 than what eventually transpired. The receiver injured his shoulder on the opening drive of his new team’s first preseason game, an injury that required surgery and significant time away from the field.
Speaking to reporters at Chiefs minicamp, Brown expressed his gratitude at being handed a second chance on the team.
“I really leaned on my faith, I wasn’t coming back expecting anything. I was coming back, really just trying to help whichever way I could, and that was my mindset, and that helped me carry me through the end of last year. So I was just really grateful that I even had the opportunity to come back.”
Where Does Brown Fit Into Kansas City’s Impressive Receiver Rotation?
Asked how he was feeling, physically, during the offseason, Brown responded positively. “I’m back,” he said, “100%.”
The receiver stands a great chance of being busy in 2025. Legendary tight end Travis Kelce has been showing signs of decline and Rashee Rice is working his way back from an injury of his own. Brown was targeted 15 times over the two regular-season games he played upon his return, more than enough for the explosive receiver to make an impact.
The veteran was then asked about his fellow Chiefs pass catchers, including Kelce, and wasted no time in complimenting his teammates.
“(The Chiefs receiver room is) the best I’ve been a part of, for sure. We compete like no other, we push each other, and we’re excited for the season.”
It will be intriguing to see how the Chiefs use Brown, with the team known for spreading the ball around among their wide receivers. If Kelce does, as expected, take on less volume in 2025, there will be more targets to go around. The team clearly has a plan for Brown, after re-signing him despite the lengthy injury. That plan will only become clearer as the year progresses.
