It’s a rarity to see the Kansas City Chiefs start 0-2; it hasn’t happened since 2014. Even with Patrick Mahomes putting up strong performances, the pressure is mounting in Kansas City as they prepare to face the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football.
The Giants, meanwhile, have looked slightly sharper through two games but share the same 0-2 record. With both teams desperate for their first win, Sunday’s showdown at MetLife Stadium promises high stakes and plenty of drama.

Chiefs vs Giants Preview
It’s the first time since Mahomes’ debut that the Chiefs have opened a season 0-2, but it may only be a matter of time before the three-time Super Bowl champion sparks a comeback. However, the real issue for the Chiefs is health concerns in the skill position department.
While the offense has still managed to deliver decently, averaging 19 per game across their first two outings, the defense has been porous, allowing 23.5 per matchup. Beyond Chris Jones and cornerback Trent McDuffie, the Chiefs lack reliable playmakers, and the younger players will need to step up quickly.
The Giants have faced similar struggles too, particularly on their defense. Their offense has averaged 21.5 points per game overall, but managed just six in a lackluster opening-day performance. Defensively, they’ve been even shakier, surrendering 30.5 points per game, including a 40-point blowout against the Cowboys.
Russel Wilson and Mahomes have been the driving forces for their respective teams, with the former throwing for 618 yards and three touchdowns on 47 completions, while also leading New York in rushing with 67 yards on 11 attempts. The veteran quarterback has shown flashes of his old form, but turnovers and pass protection still remain a concern.
Mahomes, meanwhile, has totaled 445 passing yards and two touchdowns on 40 completions. He’s also flashed his dual-threat ability, adding 123 rushing yards and two scores on the ground from 13 carries.
With both teams desperate to avoid a disastrous 0-3 start, Sunday night’s matchup at MetLife Stadium has all the makings of a turning point. Whether it’s Wilson leading the Giants to a breakthrough or Mahomes reigniting the Chiefs’ season, one contender will finally get back on track.
Prediction: Chiefs 24, Giants 20.
