Los Angeles Chargers vs. New York Jets: Same Game Parlay Picks Featuring Austin Ekeler and Breece Hall

The final game of Week 9 -- Chargers vs. Jets -- may not jump off the screen, but that doesn’t mean we can’t craft some same game parlay picks.

The Monday Night Football same game parlay picks revolve around both passing attacks. Are you willing to commit to round out the week?

We here at Soppe HQ like to encourage responsible gaming, and in that vein, I’ll always offer you a trivia question off the top of these articles. Pose this question to a buddy you are watching the game with: answer correctly, and you pay for the SGP; misfire, and he/she is on the hook.

Trivia Question: Who has more receiving yards since the beginning of last season: Allen Lazard or Austin Ekeler?

This season, Justin Herbert has an aDOT that checks in at roughly league average, but that’s unlikely to be what we see tonight.

Not only is he facing a defense that owns the fifth-lowest opponent aDOT this season, but he will be doing so without Mike Williams and Joshua Palmer.

Left at his disposal is route-running savant Keenan Allen and nothing else in terms of consistent target earners at pass catcher (WR/TE).

Enter Austin Ekeler. The All-World running back has more receiving yards than rushing yards since he returned from injury and will serve as a pretty clear-cut secondary option in this game.

For the season, Ekeler is averaging four receptions per game, a rate trending toward his career average of 4.3. Last week, as Palmer fought through the knee injury, Herbert’s aDOT was 44.5% lower than his season rate this season, a sign that Los Angeles was more comfortable in the chain-moving pass game as opposed to trying for chunk plays.

This matchup suggests a similar plan this week, especially if the Jets look to line up Sauce Gardner across from Allen as much as possible.

On the other side, Breece Hall is averaging 7.0 yards per target this season and has seen 21 targets over his last four games. His versatility is a tremendous asset, as his low aDOT targets help lower the turnover potential of Zach Wilson’s dropbacks.

In an underdog role against the worst yards-per-pass-attempt defense in the league, Hall is in a spot to shine in a potentially conservative spot from his QB.

One. That is how many interceptions Zach Wilson has thrown over his past 170 attempts (projected attempt count on MNF: 31). I don’t want to say Aaron Rodgers being around this team is having an effect on Wilson’s decision-making, but I won’t say it hasn’t!

With a 7.4 aDOT, Wilson isn’t taking a ton of shots and is, by default, putting the ball in danger less often. The Bolts make contact with the quarterback at the third-lowest rate in the league, making it unlikely that Wilson is forced into a poor decision.

Of course, we need to avoid the late desperation interception, but with seemingly every Charger game coming down to the final five minutes, I don’t think we have to sweat a significant step up in aggression for Wilson.

The Monday Night Football same game parlay picks revolve around both pass games. Are you willing to commit to round out the week?
