The Los Angeles Chargers are gearing up for one of the most pivotal offseasons in their recent history. With a long list of veterans, starters, and former stars set to hit free agency in 2026, the front office faces a tough decision: stick with what they have or go for a complete overhaul.
That uncertainty comes as the Chargers are still very much alive in the present. Los Angeles finished the regular season 11–6 and is preparing for a Wild Card showdown against the New England Patriots on Sunday night. New England enters the postseason at 14–3, making this matchup one of the most anticipated games.

Chargers Cap Space and Cut Candidates in 2026
EDGE Khalil Mack, who’s now 34 years old, is entering free agency after averaging a hefty $18 million per year. While his production and leadership are still highly regarded, his age and price tag leave his future uncertain.
Then there’s WR Keenan Allen, 33, a franchise cornerstone for over a decade, who previously earned just over $3 million annually. The decision on whether to part ways with one of the most recognizable faces in team history will definitely be a hot topic.
The offensive line could also see significant turnover. RT Trey Pipkins ($7.25M AAV), G Zion Johnson ($3.69M), G Trevor Penning ($3.54M), C Andre James ($1.17M), G Jamaree Salyer ($958K), and LT Austin Deculus ($1.03M)Â are all unrestricted free agents. That’s nearly an entire line potentially walking out the door, a scenario that would force immediate reinvestment.
In the backfield, RB Najee Harris ($5.25M) and RB Hassan Haskins ($1.09M) are at the forefront of a shifting situation. Harris’ age and workload history could make him attractive elsewhere, while Los Angeles may look to get younger at the position. TE Tyler Conklin ($3M) and TE Tucker Fisk (RFA) also hit free agency, leaving questions at tight end.
On the defensive side, the Chargers have just as many tough choices to make. DL Teair Tart ($4.5M), DL Da’Shawn Hand ($2.35M), and DL Otito Ogbonnia ($994K) are all up for grabs, along with edge rushers Odafe Oweh ($2.84M) and Del’Shawn Phillips ($1.7M). In the secondary, CB Benjamin St-Juste ($2.5M), CB Deane Leonard ($939K), and S Kendall Williamson (ERFA)Â add more uncertainty.
Quarterback depth is also notable. QB Trey Lance, still just 25 years old with a previous $2 million AAV, becomes an unrestricted free agent. His situation could be “monitored” closely by teams seeking upside reclamation projects.
All of this looms as the Chargers enter the postseason at 11–6, staring down a 14–3 Patriots team in the Wild Card round. The outcome may not just define their season. It could shape which names return, which walk, and how dramatically the roster changes heading into 2026.
