Why Were Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson’s Latest Trademarks Rejected? All About the New Controversy Surrounding the Couple

Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson’s latest trademark attempts were rejected, sparking a new wave of controversy around the couple.

Bill Belichick and his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, are back in the headlines, but it’s not about football this time. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office recently rejected four trademark applications they filed, saying the phrases they wanted to trademark were too similar to ones already owned by Belichick’s former team, the New England Patriots.

What Trademarks Were Rejected and Why?

In April, Hudson, acting as manager for TCE Rights Management, tried to trademark phrases like Do Your Job (Bill’s Version), Ignore the Noise (Bill’s Version), The Belestrator (Bill’s Version), and No Days Off (Bill’s Version). But all four phrases were already trademarked by the Patriots, dating back as far as 2009 for The Belestrator and 2017 for No Days Off and Ignore the Noise.

The USPTO said the applications would likely confuse consumers about who owned the rights. Trademark attorney Josh Gerben called the refusal unsurprising.

“They’re too similar. You can’t just tack your name onto an existing trademark and expect it to fly,” he said.

Hudson had planned to use the trademarks for clothing, books, podcasts, films, and streaming content. The USPTO informed only TCE of the refusals, giving them three months to appeal. Gerben noted that the next step would likely be a legal challenge to determine whether the Patriots were still actively using the trademarks or whether Belichick had any rights from his previous contract.

Controversy Continues To Build Between Jordon Hudson and Bill Belichick

This isn’t the first time the couple has stirred controversy. Hudson drew attention earlier this year after a chaotic CBS interview in April, sparking criticism that she was interfering with Belichick’s coaching role at the University of North Carolina. While reports suggested tension with university officials and Belichick’s family, UNC later denied banning her from its facilities.

Adding to the insult, Belichick has made it known that Patriots scouts are no longer welcome to UNC practices or anything related to the team. It’s a hard blow, especially for players who want their chance in the NFL.

Despite the legal troubles and public scrutiny, Belichick and Hudson are still in the news, not just because of football but also because of the legal and personal issues that seem to surround the couple. Everyone is waiting to see how the pair will react and what this might mean for Belichick’s coaching career now that the trademark refusals have been made public.
