Washington vs. Washington State Head-to-Head Record

Washington and Washington State have faced off yearly since 1945, outside of the 2020 COVID year. Washington has won 76 times, there were six ties, and Washington State has won 34 times, giving the Huskies a .655 win percentage in the Apple Cup. However, this has not broken the Cougars’ confidence, as they have split the last four games, each winning two, including their most significant margin of victory ever in this matchup, of 27, in 2021.

Washington’s longest win streak in the Apple Cup is eight, from 1959 to 1966. Washington State has only ever won two in a row, and it has done so on five different occasions, most recently in 2007 and 2008.

Washington vs. Washington State Prediction

It should be a beautiful afternoon in Pullman for football on Saturday, and Washington State will undoubtedly look back to last year for motivation to turn their season around at the Apple Cup. With revenge on their mind, Washington will bring their high-powered offense as a 20.5-point favorite, the most extensive spread for either team in this game since at least 2014.

I expect Jonah Coleman to set the tone early and often on the ground, as he will be well rested off a bye week on the heels of his five-touchdown performance last time out. Then, I expect Demond Williams Jr. to continue his stellar performance and keep this incredibly balanced offense flying high with rivalry on their mind.

The Huskies boast the second-ranked offense based on our PFSN College OFFi rankings, and it will be too much for the Cougars to handle this time out. The Cougars were dismantled by North Texas last time out, and while they try to fix what went wrong, Washington will be watching film, looking to exploit those deficits.

The presence of Tacario Davis and Alex McLaughlin on defense makes everyone better for Washington, and Washington State doesn’t have much in the skill position department to provide much resistance. Look for Washington to lean on the run, catch the Cougars overcommitting there, and exploit that and the clear talent differential.

Prediction: Washington 48, Washington State 17
