Ty Simpson Earns Eye-Popping Prediction in Latest Mock Draft Ahead of Alabama vs. Missouri

Ahead of No. 8 Alabama's matchup with No. 14 Missouri, Crimson Tide QB Ty Simpson earned some major props for his NFL Draft stock.

No. 8 Alabama travels to Columbia, Missouri, on Saturday to take on a 14th-ranked Mizzou team with a high-powered offense. While the Crimson Tide’s offense has continued to evolve over the course of the season, one of the biggest improvements has been the play of QB Ty Simpson, who has passed for 1,478 yards and 13 touchdowns to just one pick.

While Simpson might not be the flashiest name on the draft board in April, he is still getting some major props, which could lead to a Day 1 or 2 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. In PFSN’s latest mock draft, analyst Mark Stolte broke down what an NFL team would get by selecting the Crimson Tide signal-caller.

According to Stolte, the Arizona Cardinals could be in the market to draft a new quarterback after cutting current starter Kyler Murray to save $5 million in cap space.

“The Cardinals grab a technical and mechanically elite prospect that has shades of Justin Herbert with talented field vision and precise accuracy. Ty Simpson ranks 11th in our QBi rankings and 20th in completion percentage with over 70% of his passes being completed this season,” Stolte writes.

“He also ranks seventh in explosive pass percentage, something the Cardinals have struggled with intensively (29th in explosive pass rate),” he continued.

Murray, who was selected first overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, has spent his entire career in Arizona. While there have been flashes of brilliance that made Murray such a high-valued pick in the first place, he has never seemed to slot into the Cardinals’ offensive system.

Meanwhile, Simpson represents a much more “traditional” style of quarterback that focuses on staying in the pocket and only scrambling when necessary. While Murray’s style isn’t bad, it has led to injuries for the passer and sometimes turnovers or plays for a massive loss that stall out the drive.

Arizona’s current offensive system is focused heavily on long-shot passing, where Simpson excels, so the Cardinals drafting the ‘Bama quarterback could lead to a long QB-WR marriage with Marvin Harrison Jr.

Simpson will continue his stellar system Saturday when he and the No. 8 Crimson Tide take on No. 14 Mizzou in Columbia. The game kicks off at noon ET on ABC.
