Carson Beck and Miami secured an at-large berth ahead of Notre Dame after picking up a win against the Irish in the season opener. The Hurricanes finished the year 10-2 and is set to head to College Station for a Dec. 20 game against No. 7 Texas A&M in the first round of the CFP.
This will be the first time Beck will face the Aggies, whom he somehow never played against during his time at Georgia. As Beck transferred to Miami for his final year of collegiate eligibility, the Hurricanes are expected to find his alternative for next season.
Analysts Predict Miami Will Find Carson Beck’s Replacement in Portal
On his Tuesday podcast, Fox Sports’ Aaron Torres identified Sam Leavitt as a strong candidate to take over for Beck in Miami:
“He’s going to be one of the, if not the most highly coveted players in the portal,” Torres said (4:55). “And if so, I think any team that needs a quarterback, you should probably assume he is going to be in the conversation for. I think the first one that jumps out is Miami. Not accusing Miami of tampering. Not accusing anyone of anything.”
“I’m just saying Miami has a history with transfer portal quarterbacks. And to their credit, they’ve had success. I know everybody wants to tear down Mario Cristobal, but the bottom line is look at his track record… Nothing’s official with Sam Leavitt, but that’s a school that makes sense.”
Leavitt, who spent two seasons as Arizona State’s starter, is exploring new options in the transfer portal ahead of the January winter window, and Miami could take advantage of that opportunity. Ranked 62nd on PFSN’s CFB QB Metrics this season, Leavitt guided Arizona State to a Big 12 championship and a College Football Playoff berth in 2024, throwing for 2,885 yards and 24 touchdowns.
However, the Sun Devils regressed this season, going 8-4 and finishing No. 31 in the PFSN College Football Playoff Meter. Leavitt recorded 1,628 passing yards and 10 touchdowns while adding 306 rushing yards and five more touchdowns this season.
Throughout his two playing seasons at ASU, Leavitt has thrown for 4,513 yards and 34 touchdowns while adding 749 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. He began his college career at Michigan State, redshirting in 2023. He attended West Linn High School in Portland, Oregon, and has a NIL valuation of $1.8 million, according to On3/Rivals.
Torres also mentioned Texas Tech as another possible landing spot. Meanwhile, other schools, such as Ole Miss, Penn State, and Indiana, are also in the discussion.
