With the 2024 college football season coming and going, we saw some of the greatest players to take the field last year move on to the next level in the NFL. This includes the dual-threat player and 2024 Heisman Trophy Winner, Colorado’s Travis Hunter, Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty, and Colorado’s quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
This makes the field for the 2025 college football season wide open. According to the guys over at “The Cover 3 Podcast,” no consensus guy is yet looking at the potential 2025 Heisman Trophy field.
Is There A Consensus 2025 Heisman Trophy Winner? These Analysts Don’t Think So
With the Texas Longhorns’ Arch Manning, LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier, and Clemson’s Cade Klubnik all separated by +100 betting odds to land the prestigious award, there’s no clear-cut winner. Even Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith, Julian Sayin, and Penn State’s Drew Allar are still in the mix.
You can’t count out Florida’s DJ Lagway, Oklahoma’s John Mateer, South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers, or Oregon’s Dante Moore. A big season from any of the above players could easily propel them to become the 2025 Heisman Trophy winner. Whether it’s Manning or Moore, the betting odds don’t matter; all that matters is what happens on the field.
According to Tom Fornelli of “The Cover 3 Podcast,” the favorite has “never been a full-time starter.” “Julian Sayin is in the top 10; he’s never been a full-time starter. Dante Moore was a full-time starter for half a season at UCLA before he got benched. I think it goes to show you that there isn’t a consensus guy.”
Fornelli makes a good point. Out of the top ten players in the running for the 2025 Heisman Trophy, three of them have never been a long-term full-time starter. This certainly doesn’t matter much, as any of the ten players above could take home the Heisman Trophy this year.

On the flip side, we could see quite the opposite if ten players don’t perform well. Manning, arguably, has the most potential as he enters his first-ever start for Texas. However, it remains to be seen if he can live up to the hype and, perhaps more importantly, live up to his last prestigious last name.

Then you have players like Ohio State’s Sayin, who’s never been a full-time starter, and Oregon’s Moore, who started for about half a season for UCLA before getting benched. To say the field is wide open would be a massive understatement. This is the first season in a long time with no clear-cut Heisman Trophy favorite.
It remains to be seen what happens. Will one of these ten players win, or will a dark horse emerge? We still have a ways to go before the 2025 college football season kicks off, but this may become one of the most fun and exciting Heisman Trophy races in a long time.
