After Ohio State Setback, Steve Sarkisian Reveals WR Emmett Mosley V’s Status for Upcoming Clash

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian provides an update on WR Emmett Mosley V’s status for their upcoming game vs the San Jose State Spartans.

Texas came into the season riding high as the No. 1 team in the country, but its opener against Ohio State was a wake-up call. The Longhorns’ 14-7 loss to the defending champions wasn’t just about Arch Manning’s struggles; it also highlighted how much the offense is missing wide receiver Emmett Mosley V.

What’s the Latest on Emmett Mosley V? Steve Sarkisian Provides Update

Mosley, a transfer from Stanford, was expected to be a big piece of Texas’s passing game this year. But a leg and hamstring injury that has bothered him since April took a turn for the worse, keeping him off the field in Columbus.

On Wednesday, head coach Steve Sarkisian gave an update, saying Mosley’s status for Saturday’s matchup with San Jose State is uncertain.

“His status is still up in the air,” Sarkisian said. “If he does play, he’ll be limited.”

Without Mosley, the Longhorns’ receivers struggled. The group combined for just five catches and 88 yards, with Parker Livingstone providing the lone bright spot by hauling in a touchdown. Otherwise, Ohio State’s secondary, led by star safety Caleb Downs, made life miserable for Manning, shutting down deep shots and disrupting timing on short routes. Texas clearly lacked an experienced playmaker who could settle things down and give Manning a reliable option in big moments.

That’s exactly the role Mosley was expected to fill. At Stanford, he immediately made an impact as a freshman, showing good hands and the ability to create separation. His decision to transfer to Texas was seen as a perfect fit, pairing his experience with Manning’s first year as a starter. For now, though, his injury has delayed the chance to build that chemistry.

Sarkisian admitted the setback has been tough for both sides, but he said there is no hurry to get Mosley back.

“I’m not in a rush with him, because when we get him out there, I want to make sure he’s healthy.”

If Mosley can get on the field Saturday, even in a limited role, it could give the Longhorns a much-needed spark. Texas doesn’t lack talent at receiver, but without a proven, steady target, the offense struggled to finish drives against the Buckeyes.

There’s still a long season ahead, and Texas will get plenty of chances to bounce back from the opening stumble. But for the Longhorns to live up to their reputation, they’ll need Manning and the offense to spark something that turns drives into touchdowns instead of missed opportunities.
