Former Miami defensive lineman Rueben Bain was one of the most hyped prospects of the 2026 NFL Draft class after a stellar season with the Hurricanes, during which they reached the national championship game. Bain has been mocked as a possible top 10 draft pick and is widely expected to be the first defensive lineman off the board on draft night.
Analyst Red Flags Rueben Bain’s Arm Length
In his latest mock draft, PFSN analyst Ian Cummings pointed out the one limiting factor that could impact Bain’s draft stock and how he could make up for the shortcoming in the league.
“Rueben Bain Jr.’s 30 7/8″ arms are the story coming out of the NFL Combine; that length is in the 3rd percentile among edge rushers,” Cummings wrote.

“Nevertheless, Bain compensates with his build-up explosion, natural leverage profile, play strength and power, rotational torque, angle IQ, and relentless execution. For Cincinnati, he’s an alignment-versatile motor monster.”
Should he be selected in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, Bain’s arm measurements would be the shortest of any edge rusher picked that high in 23 years. The record for the shortest arm length on an edge rusher in the first round is held by Jerome McDougle, who was picked No. 15 overall by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2003 NFL Draft.
Bain Addresses Arm Length Controversy
While speaking to reporters during the weekend at the combine, Bain addressed the controversy around the length of his arms and whether they would affect his draft stock and future in the league.
“People keep bringing that up out of nowhere, but no teams brought it up to me, so I don’t bring it up either,” Bain said. “As long as I just talk the talk and walk the walk, play with technique, nobody actually cares about it. It kind of surprised me because I never heard it all my life and I just ain’t give it the time of day, honestly.

“I’m versatile and I got a hot motor. I could do it at any position, at any time with the best effort, and it’s on film, it’s not something I’m just seeing. I just know that whatever team end up picking me, going to get the best out of me, going to get the best player in the draft.”
Bain earned an impressive PFSN College EDGE Impact score of 82.7 after tallying 30 solo tackles, 9.5 sacks, one interception, and one forced fumble for the Hurricanes last season.
