CJ Carr’s Notre Dame beat Navy 49-10 on a snowy Saturday night for its seventh consecutive win. After starting the 2025 season with two back-to-back losses to the Miami Hurricanes and Texas A&M Aggies, the Irish’s comeback journey has been phenomenal so far. Carr has been a driving force behind Notre Dame’s 7-2 record this season, and his phenomenal performance continues to earn him high praise from other football legends.
CJ Carr Secures Big Nod From Legendary Football Figure
During an appearance on Fox, former New England Patriots star and seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady offered high praise for Carr.
“CJ Carr looks like the best quarterback I have seen at the college level since Joe [Burrow] was at LSU,” Brady said. “He knows the game, and he can make every throw necessary.”
Brady’s compliment was backed by Carr’s performance, as he threw for 218 yards and three touchdowns in Notre Dame’s win on Saturday, completing 13 of 16 passes.
Speaking after the game, Carr revealed that he didn’t let the rain-turned-snow affect him. “I love it,” he said postgame. “Being from Michigan, I played in the rain and the snow. You’d rather play in the sunshine, but I can handle it.”
Carr is the grandson of the legendary former Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr. As Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported, there is a unique connection between Carr and the seven-time Super Bowl Champion.
As per Bonsignore, Brady and the Vegas Raiders General Manager, John Spytek, were both coached by Carr’s grandfather at Michigan. It will be interesting to see whether Brady’s praise can ultimately influence the Raiders’ interest in Carr.
Carr is projected to be a first-round NFL draft pick in 2027, with some analysts, including ESPN’s Dan Wetzel, predicting he could go No. 1 overall. Even former quarterback Brady Quinn, a two-time Heisman finalist, was full of praise for the 20-year-old QB.
“First overall pick in two years,” Quinn said.”I think he’s going to be the greatest quarterback in Notre Dame history. This isn’t me speaking hyperbole. This is me just watching him every single week, preparing him to other guys who are draft eligible now…He’s the one finding a way, willing his team back into that game in his very first start on the road.”
Meanwhile, Carr’s Notre Dame sits at No. 6 in the PFSN College Football Overall Impact rankings. The Irish also hold the No. 9 spot in this week’s AP Poll following the win over Navy on Saturday.
