Notre Dame Locks In Four-Star LB Thomas Davis Jr. Despite Georgia Interest

Notre Dame secured a pivotal piece of its 2026 recruiting class as Thomas Davis Jr., a four-star linebacker from Weddington High School in Matthews, North Carolina, officially shut down his recruitment and reaffirmed his pledge to the Fighting Irish.

“I’m locked in,” Davis told On3. “This place is special, and there’s nowhere else I’d rather be. I’m excited for this journey. Go Irish!” Davis initially committed in November, but his late May visit to Georgia raised some eyebrows, especially with his father being a Georgia alum and former Bulldog star.

Given Notre Dame’s track record, where few commits take official visits elsewhere and still sign, his trip sparked concern. However, any fears were put to rest with Davis confirming he is staying with the Irish.

Though flipping remains possible until signing day, which is still six months out, Davis appears firm in his decision. A standout leader among Notre Dame’s 2026 commits, Davis has taken on a vocal role in recruiting others to South Bend.

“It was awesome. All of the guys bonded really well, and we had a great time. It felt great to be back at home, and I think the weekend will pay off and be successful recruiting-wise.”

The linebacker also shared optimism about adding more talent to the class.

“We have a really good shot with the uncommitted guys,” he said. “That was awesome — Kaydon Finley, Joey O’Brien, Devin Fitzgerald, Khary Adams — it was great.”

As Davis alluded to, he wasn’t the only son of an NFL legend in South Bend during the recruiting weekend. Fitzgerald and Adams are the sons of legendary Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald and Green Bay Packers TE Jermichael Finley.

Davis is ranked No. 183 overall and the No. 11 linebacker in the 2026 On3 Industry Ranking. He produced strong sophomore and junior campaigns at Weddington and helped lead his team to the North Carolina Class 4A state title in 2022 with 92 tackles, including 13.5 for loss and a sack and interception.
