Raiola, a former five-star recruit and the son of Nebraska great Dominic Raiola, entered Lincoln with massive expectations. Named the starting quarterback as a true freshman in 2024, he wasted no time making an impact.

Raiola threw for 2,819 yards and 13 touchdowns, guiding Nebraska to a 7-6 finish and its first bowl victory since 2015. His debut season reenergized a program eager to reclaim its national standing.
A strengthened roster, bolstered by a top‑20 national transfer class and key offensive improvements, has only added to the optimism. Nebraska is aiming to build on last year’s success and push for even more in 2025.
Raiola’s Growth Key as Nebraska Looks to Build in 2025
Nebraska opened the 2024 season with a promising 5-1 record, but the momentum stalled once Big Ten play intensified.
Head coach Rhule recently discussed Raiola’s development on ESPN’s “Always College Football” with Greg McElroy.
“(Raiola has) always been a tremendous worker,” Rhule said. “When you’re a young player, you can be emotional… you get introverted; you start to get frustrated.”
Rhule recalled a recent chat in the cafeteria with Raiola as they watched the UCLA game. Nebraska trailed 27-7 in the third quarter and lost 27-20, despite a late push.
“He threw a pick-six out of halftime,” Rhule said. “To me, it’s not about his highs being any higher. It’s about his lows not being so low.”

Raiola threw eight touchdowns in the first four games but managed only five over the final nine weeks of the season. Nebraska will open the 2025 season against Cincinnati on Aug. 28 as they look to keep developing with their young quarterback.
