Colorado’s Deion Sanders shared a visit from his old NFL teammate, Michael Irvin, in a touching social media post.
Michael Irvin and Deion Sanders Hang Out As ‘Coach Prime’ Recuperates
The Colorado Buffaloes have spent the last couple of weeks without their head coach, Sanders, who has been at his estate in Dallas, Texas, recuperating as he’s dealing with unspecified health issues.
But a recent visit from his old NFL teammate, Irvin, captured Sanders in a mirthful mood at home. Sanders showed his appreciation by posting a video on Instagram with an emotional caption thanking Irvin: “Thank you for coming to see me yesterday and boosting my spirit. Yall already know my brother Playmaker is a fool! But I love him 2 Life!”

In the video, originally shared on Irvin’s Instagram account, the former Miami Hurricane could be heard cracking jokes with Sanders as they walk around the pool at Sanders’ estate, with Irvin saying: “(Prime) Time, when you go back to Colorado, I’m gonna keep this for ya. I’m gonna take care of this for ya. I got you, buddy. Don’t sweat it. We gonna call it the Prime party.” Sanders can be heard laughing throughout, calling him “a fool” at certain points.
In the caption of his post, Irvin was more reflective and serious with his words, underscoring the love and respect he has for Sanders. “My Bishop always said when your loved ones are dealing with any difficult issues, you must find ways to make them laugh and CHANGE [THEIR] FREQUENCY,” Irvin wrote, “I love you to life and FOREVER my brother.”
Sanders and Irvin have been fast friends since their days in the NFL, having won Super Bowl XXX together in 1996. The two Pro Football Hall of Famers have also worked together as analysts on NFL Network after their playing days were done. Irvin has also visited the Buffaloes multiple times for games and addressed the team for their 2023 home game against the USC Trojans.
The Buffaloes’ head coach has kept mum about his health struggles, but recently opened up a little bit during his appearance on former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel’s “Say What Needs To Be Said” podcast last month. “What I’m dealing with right now is a whole other level,” Sanders told Samuel, according to Sports Illustrated. “I’ve done no media, I’ve done nothing for a minute… I’ve lost 14 pounds. I’m coming back, but I needed this. I needed this exchange because I haven’t had any energy.”
“Coach Prime” has overcome some serious health issues in the past, notably having two toes amputated after developing blood clots due to a previous surgery. He has thanked fans and Colorado supporters for their well-wishes, expressing that “everything is OKAY” in another social media post.
