LaNorris Sellers, once an overlooked quarterback from Florence, South Carolina, has rapidly emerged as one of college football’s biggest stories. Now 19 and standing 6’3″, 240 pounds, Sellers is projected as a top-five NFL Draft selection.
Just a year ago, few outside recruiting circles knew his name, and South Carolina didn’t offer him until late in his senior year. Despite receiving lucrative offers from other programs, including one reportedly worth $8,000,000, Sellers chose to stay, cementing his reputation as both a top talent and an example of rare loyalty.

As LaNorris Sellers’ profile rose after a breakout season last year, schools across the country began making aggressive attempts to lure him away. According to his father, Norris Sellers, the most staggering offer reached $8 million. Despite the financial windfall on the table, Sellers never seriously considered leaving South Carolina, via The Athletic.
A guy almost no one had ever heard of a year ago and who was overlooked throughout the recruiting process to being a projected top-5 NFL Draft pick, 19-year old LaNorris Sellers may be the best story in college football right now:https://t.co/fRMiVW2Chs

“He was offered all kinds of crazy numbers,” LaNorris Sellers’ father, Norris, said. “I told him he could say, I’m gonna stay or I’m gonna go. By my two cents: It was to get into college on a scholarship, play ball, get our degree, and go on about our business. This NIL deal came later,” he revealed.
“We didn’t come here to make money. We came here to get our education, play ball, and with schools calling, we’re not gonna jump ship because they’re offering more than what we’re getting. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
“You’re 19,” Norris added. “You don’t need ($8 million). You’re in a great spot. There were several talks, but it never really crossed his mind [to leave]. It’s a challenge with colleges offering younger guys that kind of money. Who’s gonna say no to $8 million for two years? They’re gonna be swayed if you don’t have the right people in your corner.”

Shane Beamer, South Carolina’s head coach, wasn’t concerned about Sellers departing.
“I do realize that there is a money aspect to it, but I know he realizes he has a really good situation here, on and off the field,” Beamer said.
Sellers echoed that sentiment. “I’ve been playing football all of my life for free. I’ve built relationships here, my family’s here, my brother’s here. There’s no reason for me to go someplace else and start over.”
Now in his second year with the Gamecocks, Sellers is a dark-horse candidate for the Heisman. South Carolina is even gaining traction as a surprise candidate to make the College Football Playoff.
