Florida State transfer quarterback Thomas Castellanos made headlines this week with some questionable comments about the state of Alabama football. The comments were met with a lot of controversy, as the Crimson Tide has long been one of the most respected programs in the country.
Despite Castellanos’ bold comments, one SEC quarterback is giving credit to Alabama and believes they are still one of the best teams in the country.
LaNorris Sellers Gives Alabama Their Flowers Amid Thomas Castellanos’ Comments
In an interview with On3’s Pete Nakos, former Boston College quarterback and Florida State transfer Thomas Castellanos had some choice words about Alabama ahead of the Seminoles’ week one matchup with the Crimson Tide.

“They don’t have Nick Saban to save them. I just don’t see them stopping me,” Castellanos told Nakos.
The comments caused their fair share of controversy and were one of the biggest talking points in the college football world yesterday.
In the wake of the Florida State quarterback’s comments, South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers was asked by analyst Zach Gelb what he thought about the Crimson Tide in an interview on the “Zach Gelb Show.”
LaNorris Sellers tells me the biggest difference from last year’s @GamecockFB squad to the 2025 one is that now they know they can win. @CoachSBeamer @LanorriSellers @InfSportsNet pic.twitter.com/MpzNs10dkN

Sellers didn’t take the bait, instead giving the Crimson Tide a lot of credit.
“Alabama is still Alabama to me,” Sellers said. “They were good last year, they’re a good team. They’re big, strong, and fast. That’s how I remember watching them growing up, and I don’t think they’ve really changed that much.”
It’s wise for Sellers to show respect to a program that, even without Nick Saban, is one of the best in the country.
Alabama didn’t have its best season last year, winning less than 10 games for the first time since 2007, but was still ultra-competitive, taking down teams like Georgia and LSU in head coach Kalen DeBoer’s first year with the program.
Sellers learned the hard way that Alabama is ‘still Alabama’ last season, when his Gamecocks lost to Kalen DeBoer’s squad 27-25 in Tuscaloosa.
Regardless of what you might think about Deboer, Sellers is completely right that Alabama still has one of the best rosters in the sport and will continue to compete with the best in the country.
Sellers will have the chance to give the Gamecocks their first win over Alabama since 2010 in their matchup this season on October 25.
