Lane Kiffin on Notice As LSU OC Charlie Weis Jr. Draws NFL Interest

LSU HC Lane Kiffin feels he has offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. set for next season, but the NFL might be calling his name.

While LSU head coach Lane Kiffin allowed Tigers offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. to run the Ole Miss offense during its College Football Playoff run, he was hoping Weis would then shift his focus to the Tigers’ offense for the 2026 college football season.

However, Weis appears to be drawing interest from the NFL, a path Kiffin knows well from his time with the Raiders organization.

LSU OC Charlie Weis Jr. Draws Interest from NFL

One team reportedly showing interest in Weis is the New York Giants.

According to Connor Hughes, an NFL reporter for SNY who covers the Giants and New York Jets, the Giants may be interested in speaking with Weis. In a post on X on Thursday, Hughes credited ESPN NFL Nation reporter Jordan Raanan for first identifying the situation.

According to Connor Hughes, an NFL reporter for SNY who covers the Giants and New York Jets, it appears that the Giants might want to chat with him.

“Talking to sources around the NFL, the name garnering a lot of attention for the Giants OC job (now that Todd Monken is the HC of the Browns) is Charlie Weis Jr.,” Hughes wrote, while crediting ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, who reported the same in Week 18.

“Weis arrived at Ole Miss the same year as Jaxson Dart (2022) and served as his QB coach, offensive coordinator (although Lane Kiffin called plays) all three years,” Hughes continued. “The two remain close. Wouldn’t go as far yet to say he’s the favorite, but he’s the name that keeps coming up in league circles.”

Dart is viewed as a centerpiece of the Giants’ offense, along with running back Cam Skattebo. If Weis were to make the jump to the NFL, it would leave Kiffin needing to fill the offensive coordinator role. Whether Weis ultimately decides to make that move remains uncertain.

Charlie Weis, Weis Jr.’s father, previously served as offensive coordinator for the New York Jets, New England Patriots, and Kansas City Chiefs, in addition to head coaching stints at Notre Dame and Kansas. Whether the younger Weis follows a similar path remains to be seen, as he weighs staying with Kiffin against pursuing an NFL opportunity.
