Lane Kiffin and #13 Ole Miss will host #4 LSU this weekend in a showdown of unbeaten SEC teams. Rivalries run deep in the SEC, and this week, the Kiffin family added an unexpected chapter in the history of LSU and Ole Miss.
Kiffin’s daughter added more fuel to the fire in the week before the 110th matchup between these two historic programs. Landry Kiffin posted on social media this week, announcing that she’s dating LSU linebacker Whit Weeks.
Lane Kiffin Responds to Daughter’s Post
Kiffin, known for his humorous social media posts, did not wait until game day to share his thoughts. In this case, his message was short and sweet. “Take the over.” The post is obviously in good fun, but the competitor in him will more than likely use this moment as motivation once the game kicks off on Saturday.
Was This a Calculated Move?
While the vast majority of the internet has focused on Ole Miss using this as added motivation to take it to LSU, David Pollack and Brent Rollins had a different take on this situation in the latest episode of “See Ball Get Ball.”
“You know that’s calculated,” Rollins said through a smile. “Did Lane tell her. ‘Hey, do this so I don’t have to answer who my starting quarterback is.'”
Rollins is referring to Ole Miss’s current quarterback situation. With starter Austin Simmons returning and backup Trinidad Chambliss playing fantastic football, Kiffin has a tough choice this weekend and beyond.
Rollins continued with his theory about the real reason for the announcement of Landry Kiffin and Whit Weeks. “‘Let me just answer questions about you and your boyfriend. No one asked me about the starting quarterback.'”
Pollack mentioned that this whole scenario adds even more intrigue to what might already be the game of the week, but whether there will be an on-field fallout is hard to say right now. “Does he line up in the I formation and put a 280-pound fullback and run iso first play of the game just to run at Whit Weeks?” asked Rollins.

All fun storylines aside, this is a major early-season SEC showdown that will impact both teams’ pursuit of a playoff spot come January. Knowing that, it’s hard to imagine that either team needs extra motivation to head into this one. Regardless, if anything can add extra incentive, both coaches will gladly take it.
This one kicks off at 3:30 PM on Saturday with Ole Miss as 2.5-point favorites.
