Just hours before the Egg Bowl between the Ole Miss Rebels and Mississippi State Bulldogs on Friday at Starkville, Miss., tensions were running high. No, they weren’t solely surrounding the job status of Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin.
Apparently, some wild incidents occurred when individuals associated with Mississippi State allegedly entered the Ole Miss locker room.
What Happened in Ole Miss Locker Room?
Kiffin, who has enough on his plate right now, talked about what happened in a pregame conversation with SEC Network reporter Marty Smith. Smith posted on X what Kiffin told him about the situation.
“Lane Kiffin tells me on the field pregame that Miss St. students broke into Ole Miss locker room at 3am and stole Trinidad Chambliss’ jersey,” Smith wrote. “The great Ken Crain, Ole Miss’ equipment czar, set up Covert surveillance cameras. Because of course he did. Egg Bowl!”

Chambliss, of course, is Ole Miss’ starting quarterback. According to the PFSN CFB QB Impact metrics, Chambliss has an impact score of 92.4 and grades out to an A-. He has a 65.2% completion percentage and has thrown for 2,657 yards and 14 touchdowns this season, heading into Friday’s game.
Chambliss has only thrown three interceptions for the Rebels. Additionally, Chambliss is also a threat to run the ball. On the season, he has 110 rush attempts for 444 yards and six rushing touchdowns. That’s the solid definition of a dual-threat quarterback right there.
It’ll be interesting to see what, if any, penalties or statements Mississippi State makes regarding the incident. As of pre-game, Mississippi State had not issued any formal statement regarding Kiffin’s allegations.
As for Kiffin, he’s been in the middle of a maelstrom of intrigue and suspense. Many people believe Kiffin will be leaving Ole Miss for a new job at LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Ahead of the Egg Bowl, both Kiffin and Ole Miss have made it clear that no firm statement on Kiffin’s coaching situation will be made until after Friday’s Egg Bowl showdown.
Still, that hasn’t shut down the whispers from across the college football world. For now, Ole Miss has some more incentive to knock off its in-state rival on Friday.
