Georgia’s wide receiver room is loaded with talent heading into the 2025 season. It’s usually challenging to identify the standout player among them, but one name has recently emerged as a promising X-factor.
While fans are focused on flashy transfers and returning stars, one college football analyst believes head coach Kirby Smart may have a “secret weapon” tucked away. Most importantly, he is already drawing comparisons to former Georgia standout Ladd McConkey.
College Football Analysts Compare Junior WR London Humphreys to Ex-‘Dawg Star Ladd McConkey
Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are reloading for another championship run. Let’s be honest, much of the offseason buzz has centered around high-profile transfers like Zachariah Branch and Noah Thomas, but there is a silent killer in the mix, and his name is London Humphreys. And he has the potential to be a breakout star.
In a recent episode of “UGA Football on Dawg Post,” Georgia analyst Dean Legge called Humphreys the team’s “secret weapon.” That’s a big deal, especially since the Bulldogs already have a lot of great wide receivers.
“We’ve been talking about Georgia’s wide receiver room basically the entire off-season,” Legge said. “It’s loaded with talent. It’s deep. But there is a secret weapon in that room that I’m not sure Georgia fans are really expecting. And according to [analyst] Cole Cubelic, it’s London Humphreys.”
Humphreys was underutilized last season, despite showing flashes of real potential. “I kept expecting to see more of this guy because he looked like he could contribute, but he just wasn’t used enough,” Legge explained.
“The secret weapon for Georgia is London Humphreys.” Legge believes that while Humphreys didn’t light up the stat sheet, he was a player who “can catch and he can really run.”
Legge even compared Humphreys to former Bulldogs standout McConkey, who the Los Angeles Chargers selected in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
“He’s a great route runner, I think there’s some Ladd McConkey in him. I know Georgia fans are going to love that. Again, he can run routes, and he has a high football IQ. The kid’s a good wide receiver,” he explained.
He further said, “And I think that he can help this offense. When you take his skill set inside of everything else that Georgia has, it could be a perfect fit to take advantage of how defenses are going to be forced to play them.”
The Bulldogs’ wide receiver unit struggled with drops last season. According to the analyst, this was partly due to Humphreys, who had a few of his own. However, there is now optimism that the 22-year-old could shine this season as Smart’s quarterback situation and offensive system continue to take shape.
While he was underutilized during his first season in Athens, he performed well as a freshman at Vanderbilt. Now with Gunner Stockton expected to start at quarterback this season, Humphreys should attract more looks.
