KC Concepcion is making the jump to the NFL after spending two seasons at NC State and one year at Texas A&M. He proved his caliber as one of college football’s most influential transfers and ranked among the top wide receivers in the Southeastern Conference last season, which significantly elevated his draft stock.
KC Concepcion Earns Backup From NFL Stars Amid Speech Impediment Mockery
During Friday’s media session at the NFL Combine, Concepcion emphasized his potential as a slot receiver at the next level, stating that once the ball is in his hands, he becomes electric. While his talent and self-assurance were expected talking points, some individuals chose to mock his speaking style during the event. Concepcion has a lifelong speech impediment and has dealt with stuttering since childhood.
Two-time Super Bowl champion Lawrence Tynes was among those who publicly defended him.
“He’s one of the best humans you will ever meet. Takes time for kids and all fans. He is vocal and intentional about helping others with speech impediments. The “people” mocking him can f**k off and watch him shine in life,” Tynes tweeted.
According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, more than three million Americans stutter, and many children eventually grow out of it. While the exact cause remains unclear, experts believe it involves a mix of genetics and neurophysiology, and Concepcion also inherited the condition from his father, Kevin Concepcion Sr.
Kevin is a former player himself and also managed the same speech impediment, and he hopes his son can inspire others facing similar challenges. Concepcion has never allowed his stutter to hinder him from being a vocal leader both on and off the field, and Mike Elko also heavily praised him for the way he conducted himself in front of the media.
Conception also earned the attention of the Dallas Cowboys safety Juanyeh Thomas on Saturday.
“Momma told me as a kid , the reason you stutter is cuz it’s so important you gotta say it twice… Keep being confident young king,” Thomas wrote while sharing a clip of Concepcion’s Combine interview.
Concepcion is widely projected as a first-round pick, and several NFL franchises have shown interest, as he has already met with the Las Vegas Raiders, Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Concepcion was the most dependable target for starting quarterback Marcel Reed at Texas A&M. He wrapped up his Texas A&M career with 61 catches for 919 yards and nine receiving touchdowns, while also adding one rushing score and two more on punt returns. He ended the 2025 season ranked No. 19 nationally among wide receivers in the PFSN College Football WR Impact Metric with a score of 81.5.
