The Colorado Buffaloes entered their game against the Delaware Blue Hens wondering who would shake out as their starting quarterback. Kaidon Salter got the start, and seventeen-year-old Freshman Julian Lewis entered on Colorado’s third offensive possession, making him the third-youngest Buffalo to debut in 20 years.
Salter started fairly strong as Colorado got a 10-0 lead on their first two drives, including a nine-yard touchdown run by Salter on the Buffaloes’ first drive. However, things quickly went downhill when Lewis entered the game, as he faltered.
However, things were different when head coach Deion Sanders turned to Ryan Staub late in the first half.
Who Looks Like the Better Quarterback for Colorado?
Off the bat, most fans had no love for either Salter or Lewis and a lot for Staub, who immediately sparked the Colorado offense, increased their lead to 17-7, and gave the Buffaloes some sharp play.
One poster said, “Im glad prime did what he did Salter is legit horrible Lewis is already better than him but too young for the wolves Staub is qb1 from here out.”

Another chimed in to say, “@William_Whelan That Staub ends up being the bridge to Julian Lewis instead of Salter, :shrugs: Salter would’ve left Liberty for a bigger stage, and he would’ve missed out on his opportunity to put down another season of tape, largely because he didn’t pick up the new concepts fast enough.”
That Staub ends up being the bridge to Julian Lewis instead of Salter, 🤷🏾♂️.
Salter would’ve left Liberty for a bigger stage, and he would’ve missed out on his opportunity to put down another season of tape, largely because he didn’t pick up the new concepts fast enough

While another supported Staub as well, posting, “Put Kaidon Salter on the bench. Tell Julian Lewis to take the redshirt.Ryan Staub is 5 of 8 for 157 yards with two TDs. That’s your guy. That’s THE guy, Colorado.”

Staub had a nice game. He completed seven of 10 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. Salter completed 13 of 16 passes for 102 yards, but he had no touchdowns and threw no interceptions. Lewis finished his appearance, completing two of four passes for just eight yards.
Coach Prime will have a big decision next week when the Buffaloes take on the Houston Cougars at TDECU Stadium on Saturday, September 12, at 7:30 p.m. ET.
