If college football fans were hoping for a stellar game on Sunday afternoon between the No. 17-ranked Washington Huskies and Washington State Cougars, then they were left disappointed.
The Huskies led the Cougars 10-0 at halftime, and late in the fourth quarter, the score was 17-10. Washington scored a late touchdown to make it 24-10, and the Huskies took home Apple Cup glory with a win over their bitter rivals.

That didn’t matter, though. College football fans had some hate and displeasure to share online.
CFBTalkDaily didn’t hold back on the criticism as it posted online, “This Apple cup is UGLY … Both teams definitely going through week 1 growing pains”.

This fan was not happy at all with how the Apple Cup played out on the TV, writing, “This might be the ugliest Apple Cup I have ever watched”.

Another observer had a simple five-word statement to make: “This Apple Cup is SLOPPY”.

What about this fan? He saw the game and decided that it might need a new name. The fan posted online, “Apple cup should be called the rust bowl today. Very sloppy.”

Another fan was not impressed by what Washington and Washington State were doing on the field at all. He put this message out on social media: “The Apple Cup is just awful football right now”.

The Apple Cup this season proved so problematic that a fan had trouble staying awake to watch it. This fan wrote, “Most boring Apple Cup I’ve seen in some time … Snooze fest”.

CBS Sports sportscaster JP Acosta also found watching the Cougars try to take out the Huskies not much to write home about at all. Acosta posted this online: “Apple Cup has quickly turned into the Slop Bowl”.

While Washington fans watched the game unfold, a number of them fired off nasty posts at Huskies head coach Jedd Fisch.

For now, these college football fans simply hope that the next game they watch is much more competitive.
