Tennessee defensive back Boo Carter remains a member of the team. The fans’ reaction to head coach Josh Heupel’s decision is not very kind, to say the least. Talent will usually accompany a great deal of drama, to a point.

Fans Torch Tennessee HC Josh Heupel For Decisions Affecting The Team’s Future

After missing team activities, the Tennessee football team’s captains and leaders decided to confront the defender. What ensued threatened to hurt the program. A fight started between Carter and his teammates. Fans took to social media to praise Heupel for handling the situation.

This tweet set off a firestorm of comments that veered in multiple directions. Some thought Heupel made a poor choice by not dismissing Carter after he argued with his teammates.

Culture and chemistry make good teams great champions. Trust and respect between players forge friendships, building a stronger team.

Another fan wrote about how it did not come as a shock to them.

This comment doesn’t seem to possess much context. Saying that teams will extend latitude to good players isn’t new and will always happen.

The “Power T” refers to this quote by Heupel, which was used when quarterback Nico Iamaleava left the program over money issues.

The head coach took a stand, but some felt he wilted by allowing Carter to stay as a volunteer.

Another fan spoke about what it means to be playing at such a reputable organization at that level.

Granted, Tennessee football is the undisputed king of the state. Still, the Volunteers run a national program that can branch out and draw talent from across the country to Knoxville.

In addition to losing Iamaleava, edge rushers James Pearce Jr. and Dylan Sampson left for the NFL draft. Under those circumstances, losing your starting quarterback, productive running back, and standout pass rusher in one offseason would raise doubt on any team.

While probably tongue-in-cheek, it draws a parallel to the University of Georgia, which is highly successful but struggles with player discipline as car accidents and arrests follow the team.

Carter is still a team member. His future remains in Heupel’s hands. If the team gets off to a poor start, how will this affect its cohesiveness, and could it lead to a mutiny?
