Deion Sanders Jr., aka Bucky, is more than a camera-holding content creator for Colorado’s football program’s social media. Insider Phillip Dukes, speaking on the “Locked On Buffs” podcast, revealed Bucky’s shadow role as a coach-like figure who gives insights to his father, Coach Deion Sanders.
Amid Colorado’s offseason buzz, highlighted by Warren Sapp’s playful jab during Sanders’ visit to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ training camp, Bucky’s behind-the-scenes contributions are shaping the Buffaloes’ culture as they prepare for a significant 2025 season.
Deion Sanders Jr.’s Secret Role Behind The Camera In Shaping Colorado
Dukes shared that Bucky, beyond filming content, acts as an extra set of eyes for Coach Prime. According to the insider, “Even though he’s walking around with the camera and giving everybody a look into behind the scenes, he even mentioned that sometimes I have to turn the camera off… I’m almost like an extra coach at times.”
Drawing on his experience as a former Division I wide receiver at South Carolina, Bucky provides feedback, according to Dukes, “Some things maybe his dad may have missed, a son can go back and say, ‘Hey Dad, I noticed this when I was recording earlier.’”
His observations, gleaned while documenting practices, give more input to the coaching staff, making their jobs a little easier. This coach-like presence extends to supporting the program’s operations, from player morale to logistical coordination, making Bucky a vital but quiet force in Boulder.
Colorado’s Offseason Scene
The Buffaloes are navigating a pivotal offseason, with Coach Prime recovering from health including, including multiple foot and leg procedures for blood flow issues. Sanders, who admitted he’s “not all the way recovered” in a video with his daughter Shelomi, has been absent from Boulder, training in Texas while visiting son Shilo at the Buccaneers’ camp.
There, Sapp, a 2013 Hall of Famer and recent Colorado staff addition, commented on Instagram, “That’s illegal my G @deionsanders can not form a weapon!! What a Joke,” poking fun at Sanders’ pose with Shilo.

Sanders’ absence, combined with the departure of stars Shedeur Sanders, Shilo, and Travis Hunter, sets up a 2025 quarterback battle between freshman Julian Lewis and transfer Kaidon Salter. According to athletic director Rick George, Sanders is expected back soon.
As Colorado rebuilds without its star players, Bucky’s behind-the-scenes work helps maintain program cohesion. With Sanders’ return in the works and a new roster taking shape, Bucky’s multifaceted contributions, from filming to strategic input, are quietly steering the Buffaloes toward a competitive 2025 season in the Big 12.
