Get all the info on the 2025 Shreveport Kickoff Classic featuring Langston vs. Grambling State; kickoff time, date, TV channel, and how to watch.

The air in Shreveport is already thick with anticipation. Fans are gearing up for a clash that will bring together two hungry programs in a venue loaded with history. Independence Stadium, usually reserved for the Independence Bowl, will become a proving ground as the Grambling State Tigers and Langston Lions battle it out under the Saturday night lights.

For Grambling, the return of the Shreveport Kickoff Classic is a walk down memory lane, but for Langston, this game is about a new opportunity. Both teams are chasing more than just an early win; pride, tradition, and the momentum of a long season are all on the line.

This year’s Shreveport Kickoff Classic, set for Saturday, Aug. 30, at Independence Stadium, offers a fresh storyline for fans. The stadium, which seats up to 50,000, is no stranger to big games but will see Grambling State and Langston meet for the first time in this event. The Tigers are no strangers to games here, having last played and won at the venue in 2022. That year, Grambling State rolled past Northwestern State, 47-21.

The Kickoff Classic itself has deep roots. First known as the Red River State Fair Classic, it dates back to 1911. The current version marks the return of a big-time matchup after a few seasons away, returning fan energy to downtown Shreveport.

Even though the Classic is new for this pairing, Grambling State and Langston have some shared history. According to the numbers, they’ve faced off six times since 1977, most recently in 2008, when Grambling State pulled out a 13-2 win. This time, the stakes feel bigger — a neutral field, a new era, and two programs eager to make early noise in their respective leagues.

What Does the 2025 Season Hold for Langston and Grambling State?

Looking at the full slate ahead, Langston heads into 2025 with hope and a challenging schedule. The Lions have four home games, five road matchups, and start things off with that big neutral-site test against Grambling State.

Langston’s home opener at W.E. Anderson Stadium is scheduled on Sept. 6 against Louisiana Christian. September then gets even busier, with road games against UT-Rio Grande Valley on 13 and Texas College on Sept. 20. October features Ottawa-Arizona coming in on 4, followed by a Homecoming celebration against Arkansas Baptist on the 11.

The Lions keep moving, facing Wayland Baptist and Texas Wesleyan on the road before closing out the regular season with a trip to Nelson University on Nov. 8 and the Battle of the Bell at home versus Oklahoma Panhandle State on Nov. 15.

Meanwhile, Grambling State’s 2025 schedule is loaded with key battles and regional rivalries. The Tigers will play six games in Louisiana, with five at home, three at neutral sites, and one big road game against an FBS power.

They begin with an early test: a trip to Ohio State, the reigning champs, on Sept. 6. Grambling State’s first home tilt follows on Sept. 13 against Kentucky State, and East Texas A&M visits on Sept. 20. Their SWAC opener will see the Tigers head to Dallas for Prairie View A&M in the State Fair Classic at the Cotton Bowl on Sept. 27.

October is full of action too — homecoming against Texas Southern on Oct. 11, a road game at Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Oct. 18, and a showdown with Jackson State in Las Vegas on Oct. 25. Things don’t let up in November either. The Tigers host Alabama A&M (Nov. 1) and Bethune-Cookman (Nov. 8), then close out road obligations at Alcorn State on Nov. 15.

The regular season wraps up on Nov. 29 with the iconic Bayou Classic in New Orleans as Grambling State faces Southern University at the Caesars Superdome.
