Texas Longhorns HC Steve Sarkisian addressed the media after the team’s scrimmage, but it wasn’t just his words that drew attention. Fans quickly noticed a change in his appearance, particularly his weight, prompting talk about his health. Is he sick? Only Sarkisian can answer that.
Texas HC Steve Sarkisian’s Appearance Sparks Concern
Texas HC Sarkisian showed up before Week 1 looking noticeably leaner, and fans immediately took notice.
No official word has come from Sarkisian, but the internet is buzzing. Is it an illness? A lifestyle change? Something more serious? Theories are flying, with some fans recalling Deion Sanders’ quiet cancer battle.

For now, Sarkisian’s health remains pure speculation; only he knows the real story. What is clear, though, is his impact on Texas football.
Now entering his fifth season, Sarkisian has reignited a Longhorns program that struggled through much of the 2010s. Since arriving in 2021, he’s put Texas on a steady rise, leading them to back-to-back College Football Playoff semifinal appearances and assembling some of the best recruiting classes in the country.
In fact, Texas enters the 2025 season as the nation’s No. 1 team, the first time in program history, firmly re-establishing itself as a college football powerhouse.
Sarkisian has made the most of Texas’s resources, landing three top-five recruiting classes since 2021, including the No. 1 class in 2025. And he hasn’t just brought in talent; he has developed it. Among his biggest wins are quarterback Arch Manning, who will start Week 1 against Ohio State, along with standout left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. and linebacker Anthony Hill Jr.
But the job’s not done yet. After two semifinal exits, Sarkisian aims to take Texas to a national championship.
The Longhorns kick off their 2025 season Saturday, August 30, at 12 p.m. ET, when they take on the Ohio State Buckeyes at Ohio Stadium. It’ll be a heavyweight clash between two elite programs.
Statistically, both teams bring firepower. Texas ranked third nationally in scoring defense in the 2024 season. They allowed just 15.3 points per game, averaging 34.5 points on offense.
Ohio State, meanwhile, led the nation in scoring defense (12.9 points allowed) and ranked 8th in scoring offense (37.2 points per game).
All eyes are on Columbus and Sarkisian as Texas begins its title hunt.
