Florida football’s season went from bad to worse Saturday night after a rivalry loss against No. 4 Miami. The Gators (1-3) dropped their third straight game in September, falling 26-7 at Hard Rock Stadium.
Florida’s offense sputtered, gaining just 141 yards in total and failing to convert a single third down. DJ Lagway threw for only 61 yards, while Miami’s defense controlled the game with four sacks and consistent pressure.
On the other side, Miami running backs CharMar Brown and Mark Fletcher Jr. carried the Hurricanes to a comfortable win. However, the storyline that emerged afterward had less to do with the on-field struggles and more to do with the trash talk off it.
Cormani McClain Shines, But OL Anez Cooper’s Comments Spark Controversy
One of the few bright spots for Florida came from cornerback Cormani McClain. The redshirt sophomore made a strong outing, recording three tackles and an interception against Miami. With fellow corner Dijon Johnson sidelined after a knee injury, McClain’s emergence is crucial for Florida’s secondary.

But Miami offensive lineman Anez Cooper shifted the conversation away from football when he targeted McClain on his Instagram Live following the Hurricanes’ win. His comments were quickly labeled disrespectful, and fans across social media wasted no time weighing in.
College Football World Slam Anez Cooper for Trash Talk
One fan expressed disbelief at Cooper’s appearance, writing, “He looks older than any active NFL player that’s nuts.” The comment mocked Cooper’s older appearance and implied his actions didn’t reflect maturity.

Another fan addressed the issue of class, saying, “Nobody cares where you from, buddy. Clean your mouth.” This fan emphasizes that where someone is from doesn’t excuse poor behavior.
That sentiment carried over in a broader critique of athletes who lean into image over substance.
“College football players wanting to be street. The interesting thing is these coddled kids think just because you’re from somewhere, it makes you a tough guy. Stop hyping yourself off someone else’s work,” a user commented, highlighting frustration with players projecting toughness through talk rather than performance on the field.

Even Miami fans were unimpressed by Cooper’s antics. One supporter admitted, “As a Canes fan this is corny, all that extra stuff after a win is dumb and especially when you didn’t dominate the game enough, celebrate but have some class and move on.”
The fan acknowledged Miami’s win but argued that the margin wasn’t dominant enough to justify showboating or disrespect.

Meanwhile, others questioned Cooper’s own contributions. One blunt comment read, “Not shocked Anez doesn’t do anything on the field.” Critics suggested that Cooper’s off-field talk overshadowed his limited impact between the lines.
For HC Billy Napier and the Gators, attention now turns to salvaging their season. Sitting at 1-3 for the first time since 1986, Florida will now face a more challenging SEC test by hosting No. 7 Texas at The Swamp in two weeks.
As for the top-five Miami squad, the Hurricanes proved they can handle pressure against a rival, but the program will need to keep its focus on winning football games rather than unnecessary off-field drama.
