Oregon lost another quarterback to the transfer portal after falling to Indiana in the College Football Playoff semifinals. Three-star QB prospect Luke Moga is reportedly entering the portal after two seasons in Eugene, following Austin Novosad as the second Ducks quarterback to leave.
Terry Biggs, PFSN’s college football analyst, argues that Moga would be an ideal fit for a team in the American Conference, particularly as a replacement for an outgoing quarterback who transferred to Oklahoma State after a breakout season.
North Texas Seen as Perfect Landing Spot for Oregon Transfer QB Luke Moga
The North Texas Mean Green surprised in the 2025 season, going 11-1 (7-1 in the American) under coach Eric Morris and quarterback Drew Mestemaker, who threw for 4,379 yards and 34 touchdowns.
North Texas had a chance to secure a berth in the college football playoffs, but Tulane had other things in mind, beating the Mean Green in the conference title game 34-21. After helping North Texas one final time in New Mexico, which resulted in a 49-47 win over San Diego State, Mestemaker announced this month that he will follow Eric Morris to Stillwater to play for Oklahoma State.
After Morris and Mestemaker’s departures, North Texas hired Neal Brown for the 2026 season. Brown’s preference for dynamic quarterbacks and Biggs’ belief in Moga as a prime fit highlight why the freshman could thrive there next season.
Biggs believes Moga, who showed potential both passing and running in limited play, is an excellent value for quarterback-needy programs and would not require a hefty offer to transfer, further emphasizing his fit for North Texas.
“Moga has no hesitation in fleeing the pocket,” Biggs wrote. “His style is the opposite of former QB Drew Mestemaker and would energize the Mean Green. Brown replaces Eric Morris, who won double-digit games in Denton. Additionally, Moga may not tax the UNT portal budget.”
Moga, who passed for 58 yards along with adding three carries for 49 yards on the ground, placed his name in the transfer portal due to Oregon’s ongoing wait for a decision from quarterback Dante Moore, who has not announced if he’ll return or enter the 2026 NFL Draft.

Another possible factor is Oregon’s interest in pass-first quarterbacks from the transfer portal, such as Nebraska’s Dylan Raiola, who passed for 4,819 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions on 456 of 660 attempts. Raiola started in nine Cornhuskers games in 2025 before sustaining an injury that forced him to shut down for the rest of the season.
Moga’s proven ability to scramble and run complements Brown’s winning record, making him a strong candidate as North Texas’s top quarterback and reinforcing why this partnership could be so effective.
Moga and Brown could quickly change North Texas’ outlook if he commits before the portal closes Jan. 16.
