‘That Boy, He’s Cold’ — Florida State Players Can’t Stop Raving About This Rising Freshman Receiver

With the 2025 college football season just six weeks away, Florida State players can't stop raving about this 2025 WR commit.

Florida State football fans did not expect a freshman wide receiver to steal the spotlight this early, but that is exactly what is happening in Tallahassee with the Seminoles.

After enrolling early in January 2025, WR Jayvan Boggs has been turning heads throughout summer workouts. He has drawn non-stop praise from his teammates, and it feels like everyone is going to be hearing his name a lot this fall. Could he be the next in line of great freshman receivers in college football?

Teammates Think WR Jayvan Boggs is the Next Big Thing at Florida State

Originally committed to UCF, Cocoa, Florida, native Jayvan Boggs flipped his commitment to the Florida State Seminoles during the Early Signing Period, and he is already showing his worth.

The Cocoa High School product is already turning heads in Tallahassee, even before playing a single down of college football. He finished his senior season with 99 receptions for 2,133 yards and 24 touchdowns, helping lead Cocoa High School to its third consecutive state championship in 2024.

Now it makes sense why Wilson is so impressed with Boggs after summer workouts. Being playful, Wilson referenced the baseball legend’s name to hype up the Florida State freshman.

He said, “I’ve got somebody that’s gonna surprise y’all this year. Fifteen. Last name Boggs. First name Wade. That boy, he’s cold. I like him a lot. He’s going to be a sleeper.”

Boggs’ nickname, “Wade,” likely refers to the MLB third baseman Wade Boggs, who played for the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, and Tampa Bay Rays over an 18-year span.

Meanwhile, freshman defensive back Antonio Cromartie Jr. echoed the excitement, saying, “My boy, Jayvan Boggs, he’s been making plays often.” Quarterback Jaylen King added, “The deep ball. He can go get the deep ball, make the plays that’ll make the fans stand up and get excited about coming to watch Florida State.”

The 6’1″ receiver will be stepping into a wide receiver room that is deep with talent and experienced transfers. He will likely be competing for snaps alongside Tennessee transfer Squirrel White and redshirt senior Gavin Blackwell, a transfer from North Carolina.

While Boggs may not start immediately, his early enrollment and strong summer performance could earn him a significant rotational role. By midseason, he could even emerge as a breakout star for the Seminoles, especially given the team’s need for offensive playmakers.

Last season, Florida State faced major disappointment. After entering the year as the defending ACC champions and a top-10 preseason team, the Seminoles finished the 2024 season with a 2–10 record.

This collapse was historically one of the worst in program history and exposed significant holes throughout the roster, particularly on the offensive side of the ball.

With Boggs joining a talented 2025 recruiting class, the roster is loaded and hopeful for a bounce-back season. It remains to be seen if the freshman wide receiver will make an immediate impact on the stat sheet.

However, his teammates’ growing praise and his impressive high school production suggest he will surely earn an important role in the offense.
