EA Sports College Football 26 will be released in just under two weeks, and fans are gearing up to play the latest edition of one of the most beloved gaming franchises.
EA recently released a deep dive and trailer for the Road to Glory mode in College Football 26, highlighting all the key features fans need to know. While the response was mostly positive, some users expressed concerns, particularly about the limited number of positions available to choose from.
EA Insider Warns Fans About Position Restrictions in Road to Glory Mode
Road to Glory is a popular mode in EA Sports College Football where players create and guide a college football athlete through their career. It’s a fan favorite, and excitement was high for its return in the ’26 edition.
Last year, fans were disappointed by the limited number of positions available to choose from for their athlete. Unfortunately, according to EA YouTuber James Bordeaux, that hasn’t changed this year.
Users can only choose from five positions again in this year’s game: Quarterback, running back, wide receiver, MIKE linebacker, and cornerback.
Bordeaux, who had early access to the beta version of College Football 26, expressed his disappointment with the EA developers not giving users more positions in Road to Glory.
“Unfortunately, these are still the only five positions that we can use,” Bordeaux said. “Listen, I’m right there with you all, I get it. I want to be able to play as a defensive lineman every so often, I want to be able to go out as a tight end.”
Bordeaux has had an overall positive response to College Football 26 from playing the beta, but admits that this was one of the things that he knew fans would not love about the game.
“We need to have more positions in Road to Glory, and it’s not happening this year,” Bordeaux said. So that was one of the things where I was like ‘yeah, this is something that most people won’t like.'”
It is disappointing not to be able to choose any position on the football field, and it seems like a lazy choice by the game’s developers. Overall, it seems like EA had been really valuing fan input from College Football 25 as they made College Football 26, but this is one of the few places where they missed the mark.
College Football 26 will be released worldwide on July 10, 2025, with early access available on July 7, 2025 for those who purchase the Deluxe Edition or the MVP Bundle.
