As Deion Sanders works to rebuild Colorado after a dismal 3-9 2025 season, the Buffaloes must reinforce their wide receiver room following Omarion Miller’s entry into the transfer portal. Even though the portal opened seven days ago, Coach Prime has already secured an elite wide receiver to compensate for Miller’s exit.
Deion Sanders’ New WR Already Clicking With Julian Lewis
It was reported on Sunday that former San Jose State wide receiver Danny Scudero would be transferring to Sanders’ Colorado. He is a big addition not just for first-year offensive coordinator Brennan Marion, but also for the Buffaloes’ five-star quarterback Julian Lewis.
Lewis started two games as a freshman in 2025 and is expected to be the primary candidate to lead the Buffaloes’ offense in 2026. He has already developed a strong connection with Scudero.
“I mean, he’s great,” Scudero said about Lewis in an interview with DNVR Buffs on Tuesday. “He came on my visit. He came to the dinner when I was there, and then he was all around on my visit. So it was cool to form that connection with him and then talk a little bit of football, and then really just like to see how he was as a person. And then he’s truly a guy that I’m excited to get out there and start our connection and form this good relationship with.”

Scudero finished the 2025 regular season leading the nation with 1,291 receiving yards and 107.6 yards per game. The Biletnikoff Award semifinalist became the fastest player in San Jose State history to reach 1,000 yards, doing so in just eight games. His 1,291 receiving yards rank fifth in a single season in program history, while his 88 receptions were first in the Mountain West.
Along with Scudero, Coach Prime’s transfer portal additions for 2026 have been outstanding, including New Mexico State cornerback Naeten Mitchell, Miami (Ohio) wide receiver Kam Perry, Sacramento State running back Damian Henderson II, Charlotte edge rusher Yamil Talib, North Dakota State edge rusher Toby Anene, James Madison linebacker Immanuel Ezeogu, Appalachian State defensive lineman Dylan Manuel, Albany edge rusher Balansama Kamara, and Tulane defensive lineman Santana Hopper.
Scudero had a solid statement on why so many players are hopping in so quickly to join Colorado for 2026.
“I think obviously the record says what it says,” Scudero said. “But at the end of the day, you’re going to a place where you can feel the love, but also feel the kind of intensity in that building where everybody feels like they’re kind of locked in on the same page. And with talking to Coach Prime all the way down to some of their equipment guys, it’s like everybody is locked in on the same goal.
“And when you have that type of similarity between everybody on staff, it kind of makes you think about like, well, I’d want to be a part of this. And I really felt that on my visit. I hope to say that the other guys who are visiting and have visited and committed felt the same thing. So I mean, it was noticeable how locked in everybody was on the visit and how eager everybody is to kind of turn this thing around and how excited everybody is.”
Scudero began his career at Sacramento State and has two seasons of eligibility remaining. He holds a 75.4 score in the PFSN College Football WR Impact Metric. He earned multiple honors this season, including Second Team AP All-America, All-Mountain West First Team, Second Team AFCA All-America, and Second Team Walter Camp All-America.
