The 2025 college football season is ticking along nicely, with a stacked Week 9 slate playing out across five days. However, the deeper we get into the season, the more teams are missing from action as bye weeks decimate the number of games. Which college football teams are on a bye this week? Let’s find out.
Ohio State Buckeyes
The reigning national champions and current undisputed number 1 team in the country will be on a bye in college football Week 9. The Ohio State Buckeyes have been imperious, looking dangerous on offense behind first-year starter Julian Sayin and dominant on defense. Ryan Day’s 7-0 side faces the Penn State Nittany Lions on Nov. 1, a matchup that has lost some excitement with how the season has unfolded for Penn State.
Georgia Bulldogs
As the race to the SEC Championship Game rages on, the Georgia Bulldogs get to take a breather as the other contending teams tear each other apart.

There are 10 programs from the conference currently ranked in the AP Poll Top 25, and they’re all in action while Kirby Smart’s team is on their bye in college football Week 9. They return to the Florida Gators on Nov. 1.
Florida Gators
Speaking of the Gators, what better opportunity for a complete reset of the mindset within the program than firing your head coach ahead of a bye week? The writing had been on the wall for Billy Napier for quite a while, but Florida finally cut bait after an uninspiring win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs. WR coach Billy Gonzales will be the interim when they face Georgia.
James Madison Dukes
The James Madison Dukes are coming off a game that sharpened their credentials as a College Football Playoff contender, a breathtaking display on both sides of the ball that saw them dominate a strong Old Dominion Monarchs side. Their reward? A college football bye in Week 9. Bob Chesney’s team then have back-to-back road games at Texas State and Marshall.
