Arch Manning has had millions of people watching his every move since his high school days. And they got a closer look at his talent when the Texas Longhorns quarterback delivered a strong opening performance against Texas State in Week 1.
However, Manning might never have made it onto the field, as a frightening moment took place just before kickoff. And the whole incident divided the fans.
CFB Fans Split Over Arch Manning’s Scary Tunnel Incident
During the Texas Longhorns’ pregame entrance for the 2026 season opener, the tunnel filled with thick smoke, and the visibility was extremely low.
As Manning made his way through, someone suddenly reached out and tried to grab his hand. Moments later, the quarterback lost his balance and fell to the ground.

Luckily, Manning was not injured and eventually took the field. But as the clip went viral on social media, several fans started calling out the person who interfered with his entrance.
One user questioned why there were no consequences, writing, “They didn’t get charged? Because if he had gotten hurt, that would’ve been pretty messed up.”
Another fan focused on the danger created by the situation, stating, “If Arch had gotten hurt, that guy would have had to go into witness protection in Mexico to avoid being killed. Also, smoke tunnels are never a good idea, especially in this day of age.”

Manning is one of the most talked-about young quarterbacks and one of the biggest names ahead of the 2027 NFL Draft. Evaluators already view him as a first-round favorite, while Pro Football Network’s Big Board lists him as QB2.
He is also the grandson of Archie Manning and the nephew of Super Bowl champions Peyton and Eli Manning. So, fans have become especially protective of the Longhorns’ star. As a result, more fans joined the conversation.

Another user blamed both the smoke and the person who grabbed Manning, saying, “If the smoke even contributed to this because it made it hard to see and the (expletive) who grabbed him then get rid of the smoke and ban that individual from any future games.”
A third fan took an even firmer stance, adding, “Find that individual and deal with him properly.”

However, soon after the incident, more details came to light, and it changed how many fans viewed what happened.
A closer look suggests the fan may have tried to catch Manning or alert him before he stumbled over equipment and a cameraman in the smoke. That explanation quickly gained support online.
One fan pointed out, “That dude was trying to warn him there was something there for him to trip over.”
“There was someone already fallen on the ground, and Arch could not see the person,” another user added.

Another fan added, “It looks like he tried to stop him from running into whatever he ran into. Guy didn’t yank his right leg back.”
Then a supporter explained that the fog created the real problem.

Another fan also explained, “He ran through equipment that was on the ground; you can literally see it. The camera crew was trying to protect him from running through it.”

However, what matters is that Manning was healthy. He also opened the season with a strong showing as Texas cruised to a 59-7 win over Texas State on Saturday.
Manning completed 20 of 27 passes for 305 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 1 interception.
