Former Miami Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck made headlines during the 2026 NFL Draft Combine after reportedly being booed by fans at Lucas Oil Stadium. Despite that, Beck has placed himself firmly in contention for the QB3 position in this year’s draft.
Carson Beck, Garrett Nussmeier, and Drew Allar Top Contenders for the QB3 Spot
The Hurricane’s quarterback finished the 2026 season with 3,813 passing yards, 30 touchdowns, and an ACC-leading 72.4% completion percentage. He also finished the season with an 83.3 PFSN QB Impact ranking, No. 36 nationally.
Following this year’s NFL Draft Combine, ESPN NFL Draft and College Football analyst Jordan Reid gave his thoughts on who he believes will be QB3 in the 2026 NFL Draft. Alongside Beck, Reid also named LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier.
“You’ve got Garrett Nussmeier of LSU, Carson Beck of Miami, and then also Drew Allar. I thought all three really helped themselves, and that question of who’s going to be that third quarterback off the board, is going to remain unanswered until draft day,” Reid stated.

A big question coming into the combine was which QB will come off of the board after Fernando Mendoza and Ty Simpson.

After being named as a potential consensus first-round pick going into the 2025 season, the LSU quarterback struggled due to an injury sustained in fall camp. Following a slow start to the season, Nussmeier was then benched in the third quarter against Alabama.
“How much did it affect me? I think it was pretty evident; I really wasn’t able to throw the football. I had a stabbing pain in my ab every time I went to go throw the football. We weren’t able to figure out exactly what it was; it was a frustrating deal.” The LSU quarterback revealed.
However, after struggling through the season while playing with an injury, the LSU quarterback was named the 2026 Senior Bowl MVP. Following that performance, Nussmeier appears to be back on the radar of NFL scouts.
According to recent reports, following his combine performance and looking significantly healthier, Nussmeier’s draft stock may have shot up. Despite that, Reid still believes that Carson Beck will be viewed by NFL scouts as the consensus QB3.
“Scouts that I have talked to believe that Carson Beck is in the lead position right now. But Garrett Nussmeier definitely is gaining. And then Drew Allar coming out here and competing, scouts definitely love that.” Reid explained.
With conflicting reports and predictions continuing to surface, the debate between Beck and Nussmeier likely won’t be settled until draft day. The third round of the 2026 NFL Draft is scheduled for April 25 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and will be broadcast live on ESPN, ABC, and NFL Network.
