Cade Klubnik’s Relentless Elite 11 Workout Sparks Praise, Self-Doubt from Analyst

Klubnik’s return to the Elite 11 quarterback competition was more than an offseason appearance. For one observer, it sparked introspection. Brooks Austin of Sports Illustrated described the experience of watching Klubnik’s session as something far beyond routine quarterback work.

“Was blown away by Cade Klubnik last night. Challenged,” Austin said, later expanding on the moment in a detailed breakdown of what he witnessed on site.

Austin recalled observing Klubnik in an extended throwing session, noting the sheer intensity and repetition with which the Clemson starter attacked a single movement.

“I watched him probably for an hour, maybe 45 minutes, work on just feeling one movement,” Austin said.

The effort went beyond demonstration. By the end of the session, Klubnik, now entering his third year as Clemson’s starter, was dripping with sweat.

“It looked like a full-on workout,” Austin said. “That dude is a maniac.”

More than just physical exertion, Klubnik’s performance struck a more resounding chord with Austin, who admitted the moment shook his sense of commitment to the sport.

“I told Cade yesterday, watching him work in that two, three-hour session yesterday made me want to wake up today loving football a little bit more than I did yesterday,” he said. “Cade Klubnik makes me question my love for football. I’m gonna be honest with you, my level of love for football.”

That level of dedication is now propelling Klubnik into the national spotlight. With Clemson positioned as a preseason top-five team and legitimate Playoff contender, Klubnik emerges as the player who could elevate the program.

Though Austin admitted he’s unsure if Klubnik will be the top overall pick in the NFL Draft, he expressed confidence in the quarterback’s long-term professional future.

“That kid’s going to play football in the NFL for 15 years,” he said. “There’s no doubt about that in my mind.”

His 2024 season numbers make the case: 3,639 passing yards, 36 touchdowns through the air, 463 rushing yards, and seven scores on the ground. Only one other quarterback nationally matched that combination of both passing and rushing production.
