Oklahoma Lands Four-Star QB Bowe Bentley Over LSU, Impacting Tigers’ 2026 Class

Four-star QB Bowe Bentley commits to Oklahoma over LSU, giving the Sooners a big recruiting win and locking in their future at the quarterback position.

The 2026 recruiting cycle is intensifying as top college football programs battle for elite talent. Throughout June, players have made official visits to schools while working to narrow their choices and finalize commitments.

Among the most competitive recruiting battles in this talent-loaded quarterback class, the Oklahoma Sooners just secured a major victory over the LSU Tigers for one of the nation’s premier signal-callers.

Oklahoma Lands Commitment From Four-Star QB Bowe Bentley

Bowe Bentley ranks among the best quarterbacks in the 2026 recruiting class. 247Sports lists him as a top quarterback prospect and one of the most sought-after players nationally.

While many schools pursued Bentley, his final decision came down to Oklahoma and LSU. After taking official visits to both programs, he ultimately committed to the University of Oklahoma on June 20.

Landing Bentley represents a significant victory for the Sooners, who urgently needed to secure top quarterback talent. Bentley becomes Brent Venables’ highest-rated quarterback commitment since taking over as Oklahoma’s head coach.

With Venables facing considerable pressure heading into 2025 after two losing seasons in three years, landing Bentley demonstrates to the athletic department that he can compete with other programs for elite quarterback recruits nationwide.

While Bentley’s commitment provides momentum for Oklahoma, it delivers a tough blow to the LSU Tigers, who had targeted him as their top quarterback prospect for the 2026 class. Brian Kelly and his staff have excelled on the recruiting trail overall but have struggled to secure a quarterback commitment in this cycle.

Losing Bentley not only weakens LSU’s quarterback room but also impacts their relationship with other commits, including five-star receiver Tristen Keys.

Keys, who ranks as 247Sports’ fourth-best player nationally, expressed disappointment about Bentley choosing the Sooners and commented, “Noooo why not come throw to 3 top 10 WRs” under Bentley’s commitment post.

Keys has been exploring other options recently, taking official visits to Tennessee, Auburn, and Texas A&M over the past two weeks. His visit to Tennessee generated significant buzz, suggesting he might reconsider his commitment to LSU.

If Keys believes the quarterback situation in Baton Rouge lacks promise, he could decide to flip his commitment from the Tigers to one of his other top schools.

The college football recruiting landscape remains unpredictable, and after Bentley’s commitment, Oklahoma clearly enjoys significant momentum over LSU this weekend.
