The North Carolina Tar Heels had a disappointing 2025 season, winning just four games. After being dominated by TCU to open last season, they got their revenge and sit at 1-0 after their Week 0 win in Dublin.
However, their general manager Michael Lombardi resigned while under investigation and on administrative leave, and now a new bombshell report has revealed that the UNC investigation is expanding and features some shocking new allegations.
UNC Investigation Expands and Features Wild Details
The investigation that started with Lombardi has gotten much wilder. While Lombardi resigned, the scope of the investigation has expanded to involve Bill Belichick’s son, Steve, who is UNC’s defensive coordinator and currently on medical leave.
Investigators have reportedly asked people about whether Steve was doing drugs at team facilities and potentially supplying drugs to at least one player, according to WRAL News.
“Investigators have also asked about an alleged sexual relationship between a member of UNC’s recruiting staff and a player, as well as possible relationships between assistant coaches and recruiting staff,” notes reporter Ari Meirov.

The allegations prompted some strong reactions from the NFL and college football worlds, as Belichick’s UNC tenure continues to be chaotic and make headlines for all of the wrong reasons.
“This guy (ALLEGEDLY) does drugs?” joked San Francisco 49ers analyst Rod Brooks.

With the investigation now reportedly involving sex, drugs, and his son, Bill is catching heat for seemingly losing control of his program.
“Good lawd. Belichick lost control of the team like THIS!?!” said one fan.
“What a train wreck!” added another fan.

The Tar Heels have been a circus ever since Belichick arrived on campus. He was the center of attention last season with the team’s poor performance and his relationship with girlfriend Jordon Hudson. Now, despite being 1-0, the program seems to be in disarray.
“UNC football really went from a program to an HBO series overnight,” said Crossing Lines, a college football podcast.

Former NFL offensive lineman Damien Woody, who won two Super Bowls with Belichick on the New England Patriots, chimed in on the wild twists and turns of the investigation.
“Oh boy,” said Woody.
It’s not looking pretty for the Tar Heels right now. This is just another wild story in the landscape of college athletics. The SEC is suing its own member in LSU, and now, the UNC football program appears to be plagued with more issues than anyone thought.

The Tar Heels will need to shut out the noise and distractions to have a successful season. With Belichick as head coach, there’s going to be plenty of attention on their program, and this won’t ease the pressure, either.
UNC is off this weekend and then faces East Tennessee State on September 12. In the meantime, Belichick needs to right the rocky ship in Chapel Hill.
