Auburn Tigers thought they had the perfect social media moment. The team posted a flashy EA Sports College Football 26 clip showcasing their “new” uniforms, expecting fans to get hyped about their Nike switch.
Instead, the internet roasted them with a brutal but straightforward reality check: “Same Uniforms.” What started as a celebration quickly became a masterclass in how social media can flip the script on any team’s marketing moment.
Why Did Auburn’s EA Sports College Football 26 Post Backfire?
Auburn fans have had plenty to celebrate lately, and it’s not just about football. The Tigers’ recent switch to Nike apparel sparked instant excitement across social media platforms.
However, things hit another gear when the Deluxe Edition of EA Sports College Football 26 dropped on Monday, July 7. Auburn jumped on the moment, sharing a slick in-game clip on X that showed off their jersey on the virtual field. They weren’t subtle about promoting the moment.

“New Uniforms. New Jordan-Hare Video board. Who’s firing up @EASPORTSCollege today?” Auburn Football wrote.
Unfortunately for Auburn, that clip didn’t just stir Tiger pride. It stirred up their rivals and fans who weren’t buying the “new” uniform hype.
“It’s the same uniforms with a Nike logo instead of Under Armour,” one wrote.
“It’s literally the same thing with a Nike logo; it doesn’t make it better,” added another.
“Omg it’s not new uniforms, there is just a Nike logo,” another chimed in.
What Does Auburn’s Nike Deal Actually Change?
The 10-year deal between Nike and Auburn, which officially began on July 1, marks a significant shift for the Tigers. The partnership moves Auburn away from Under Armour for the first time in nearly two decades.
“We are thrilled to kick off the Nike era of Auburn football,” head coach Hugh Freeze said.
“I’ve seen firsthand Nike’s commitment to excellence and innovation. Our student-athletes look forward to competing in Nike cleats and uniforms in front of the greatest fans in college football this season at Jordan-Hare Stadium.”
Auburn revealed its new uniforms on July 3, featuring the signature Nike “swoosh” logo. As expected, Auburn kept its traditional look intact. The navy jerseys with orange and white sleeve stripes remain for home games.

While the classic “storm trooper” white jerseys with navy and orange accents continue for away matchups, the pants also maintain their white base with navy and orange piping.
The changes, while subtle, extend beyond the logo swap. The number and nameplate fonts have been updated. Jersey numbers now appear noticeably larger in an old-school block style, while the nameplate font stands taller than in recent years.
Auburn’s reveal didn’t confirm alternate uniforms, leaving room for surprises as the season unfolds. Those alternates might offer something different and unique.
The Tigers’ official debut in Nike gear comes on August 29, when they face Baylor in a high-stakes SEC-Big 12 clash.
