‘I Forced It’ — Arch Manning Regrets One Major Decision After Failing to Impress in Texas’ Opener

Arch Manning admitted forcing a key interception as No. 1 Texas fell to No. 3 Ohio State, hoping to learn from this mistake and move forward.

Arch Manning entered the season as one of the biggest storylines in college football, carrying both the weight of his famous last name and the expectations of leading Texas to a national championship.

But in the Longhorns’ 14-7 loss to defending champion Ohio State, Manning found himself under the microscope for all the wrong reasons.

Arch Manning Speaks Up On Loss to Ohio State

The sophomore quarterback finished 17-of-30 passing for 170 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. It’s not the worst stat line ever, but Manning struggled to generate explosive plays against the Buckeyes’ defense and couldn’t find rhythm when Texas needed it most in the red zone. The lone interception proved costly, stalling a promising drive in the second half.

After the game, Manning didn’t shy away from accountability. Reflecting on the turnover, he admitted.

“I forced it. I should have taken off and made a play with my feet.”

When asked if this performance might be the low point of his season, Manning responded honestly, “I hope so.”

The Hype of Manning During the Offseason, Long Season Ahead

For years, Manning has been the guy to watch. From his record-breaking high school career to starting for Texas, his journey has been one of the most talked-about among athletes during the offseason.

His family pedigree only adds to the spotlight. As the grandson of Archie Manning and nephew of Super Bowl champions Peyton and Eli, football has always been in his blood.

The most impactful decision was his decision to stay at Texas for two years behind Quinn Ewers rather than transfer. This showed patience, maturity, and commitment, making fans even more eager to see him take the reins.

Saturday’s opener against Ohio State obviously didn’t go the way he wanted to, but the game offered valuable lessons. Facing one of the nation’s top defenses will provide areas to improve and allow Manning to see where he can adjust and grow. With a long season ahead, Texas has plenty of opportunities to bounce back.

It’s not the start Manning wanted to give Texas to initiate the season, but there were a few moments that could have gone differently.

Manning will get his next chance to cover up the blemish next Saturday, September 6, at noon ET on either ABC or ESPN when the Longhorns take on the San Jose State Spartans of the Mountain West.
