Arch Manning Contradicts Grandad Archie’s Comments About Committing to Texas

Arch Manning disputes grandfather Archie’s claim he’ll stay at Texas, leaving NFL Draft plans uncertain as he enters his third season with Texas.

The college football world is abuzz as Arch Manning recently contradicted statements made by his grandfather, Archie Manning, regarding his commitment to the University of Texas. As the nephew of NFL stars Peyton and Eli Manning, Arch faces immense expectations to guide the No. 1 Texas Longhorns to their first national title since 2005.

The New Orleans Saints legend Archie Manning had previously sought to relieve some of the mounting pressure on his grandson. Still, Arch’s comments have created an unexpected twist in the recruiting saga.

Arch Manning Breaks Silence on Commitment, Contradicting Grandfather Archie

In a recent interview with “Texas Monthly,” Archie Manning, the legendary New Orleans Saints quarterback, was asked whether his grandson, Texas quarterback Arch Manning, might leave Texas after one season for the NFL Draft. Archie confidently stated, “Arch isn’t going to do that. He’ll be at Texas.”

Arch, however, clarified the situation two weeks later, disputing the certainty of his grandfather’s comments.

“Yeah, I don’t know where he got that from,” Arch said. “He texted me and apologized about that. I’m really just taking it day by day, right now.”

The 21-year-old quarterback has not indicated any decision regarding early entry into the 2026 NFL Draft, leaving the notion that he is guaranteed to stay at Texas for the next two years inaccurate.

Despite the speculation, many early NFL Draft analysts currently project Manning15off the board for 2026, though nothing is guaranteed. Arch shared a personal touch about his grandfather, revealing that every call ends with Archie reminding him, “Get down or get out of bounds.”

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian has largely refrained from commenting on Manning’s future. Reflecting on the quarterback’s current mindset and performance in preseason camp, Sarkisian said,

“What I know is what I see every day, and he seems good to me. You know, we visit a fair amount to make sure that what frame of mind is he in, where I think he performs the best. This is going to be a long season, and unfortunately, we live in a world of he’s the greatest ever, or is going to be a bust. And there’s not a lot of in between……..What am I doing to prepare to put myself in the best position to perform?’ I just don’t think he’s that concerned.”

A former five-star recruit and top prospect in the 2023 cycle according to 247Sports, Arch Manning started two games last season while Quinn Ewers recovered from a shoulder injury.
