Hugh Freeze Breaks Down Jackson Arnold’s Strengths

Speaking with the media, Freeze emphasized Arnold’s steady progress in practice. “Jackson is progressing every practice. I’m excited to see him go and compete,” Freeze said. The head coach also praised Arnold’s performance in a recent mock game, noting that his decision-making was “really good.”

Freeze stressed the importance of Arnold remaining poised in the pocket, pointing to his athletic ability as a “real threat” to defenses.

Arnold’s dynamic skill set gives the Tigers multiple options in the passing game and opens opportunities for big plays in the air and on the ground. Offensive coordinator Derrick Nix and quarterbacks coach Kent Austin will provide Freeze with live feedback from the press box during games, further helping guide Arnold’s development and decision-making during live action.

Arnold’s Journey to Auburn

Arnold transferred to the Tigers from Oklahoma in December 2024, bringing experience and versatility to the Tigers’ offense. As a sophomore, Arnold passed for 1,421 yards and 12 touchdowns during the 2024 season at Oklahoma, appearing in 10 games with nine starts.

He played seven games as a freshman, including starting the Alamo Bowl against Arizona. His college career demonstrates a solid foundation, balancing passing efficiency with adaptability under pressure.

Arnold’s arrival at the Tigers is when the program seeks to build on recent momentum. After entering his third season as the Tigers’ head coach, Hugh Freeze has already made a significant impact. Since taking over the program on November 28, 2022, Freeze has brought over three decades of coaching experience, including 14 years as a head coach with multiple conference titles, nationally ranked recruiting classes, and bowl appearances.

Building Auburn’s Future Under  Freeze

In Freeze’s first season at the Tigers, the Tigers posted a 6-7 record despite a shorthanded roster and earned a Music City Bowl berth. The program continued to grow in 2024, selling out every home game for the second consecutive season and landing Top 10 recruiting classes for 2024 and 2025.

Freeze’s prior experience at Liberty University from 2019-22, where he led the Flames to four bowl games and a 34-15 record, further underscores his ability to develop quarterbacks like Jackson Arnold. Freeze notably coached former Tigers quarterback Malik Willis into one of the nation’s top signal-callers in 2021.

With multiple quarterbacks vying for the starting job, Jackson Arnold demonstrates why he may be the best fit for Freeze’s system. His combination of decision-making, athleticism, and experience at the collegiate level positions him as the key player to lead the Tigers’ offense in 2025.

Fans and analysts will watch closely as Arnold competes for the QB1 role in one of college football’s most storied programs.
